Run back to hotel from casino via Excaliburs castle.

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008 #

Running (+£0.50) 25:00 [1]

There's exactly 100 days left of this year which means that each run earns me a whopping 50 pence from the Royal Bank of Baker. I've done the math. I guess that makes me a professional athlete.

Cash game at Hard Rock casino. Bought in for $400, down to $12 and then back up to $410.

Poker (-$150) 20:00 [0]

Run on the treadmill in the hotel gym in order to satisfy the Baker criteria for the day whilst watching the fabulously entertaining and biased Fox News.

Poker (-$800) 5:00:00 [0]

The Stateside curse of the pocket aces strikes again. Cash game at The Venetian. Five hours of carefully building my $800 buyin up to $1200 followed by a monster suckout in a 3k pot with AA v KK.

Thursday Sep 18, 2008 #

Running 40:00 [1]

Around Monte Carlo and the Statue of Liberty via the pyramids.

Poker (+$350) 1:30:00 [0]

Cash game at The Sahara casino. Spent $200, won $550.

Poker (+$200) 1:30:00 [0]

Cash game at The Riviera where I've been staying. Spent $100, won $300. I've had to change hotels now as I don't want to pay the extortionate room rates here which rise to a whopping £15 a night over the weekend. I mean, it doesn't even have a rollercoaster on the roof or an elaborate replica of a European city out the front so what's the point.

Running 25:00 [1]

From the Italian Riviera around the camels in the Sahara whilst carefully avoiding the pirates at Treasure Island.

Poker (-$150) 2:30:00 [0]

$150 tournament at The Venetian casino. This place is amazing. It's just like being in Venice except that there's less American tourists and the water in the Grand Canal is more blue and doesn't smell of sewage.

Poker (+$200) 3:00:00 [0]

Cash game at The Bellagio. Spent $400, won $600.

Poker (-$200) 1:30:00 [0]

Monday Sep 15, 2008 #

Over the Rialto Bridge in Venice followed by a quick loop of the Eiffel Tower and back via New York and the Caribbean.

Poker (-$200) 1:30:00 [0]

$100 rebuy tournament at The Wynn casino. Spent $200. I've now lost with pocket aces six times in a row since being in the U S of A - that's a combined probability of 0.0064%. I've done the math. Maybe it's a sign from God?

Poker (+$410) 4:00:00 [0]

Cash game at The Riviera casino. Spent $300 won $710.

Sunday Sep 14, 2008 #

Running 45:00 [1]

Along the beach from Half Moon Bay.

Poker (-$200) 3:00:00 [0]

Viva Las Vegas. The rules of Texas Hold'em are largely the same over here as in blighty except that, before the last card is dealt, the dealer carefully finds the only card in the deck that can beat me and then magically produces it on the river. It's uncanny. I think it's the same guy that deals on the t'interweb and in Lake Tahoe. Cash game at the Venetian. Lost $200.

Saturday Sep 13, 2008 #

Running 1:00:00 [1]

Marin hills

Friday Sep 12, 2008 #

Running 1:00:00 [1]

Run around the coast and park in SF.

Thursday Sep 11, 2008 #

Running 50:00 [1]

Run around Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

After a dearth of quality religious preaching on the radio waves above Lake Tahoe, the drive through Sacramento excelled. The sermons are given in a super high speed fast-forward speaking stylee: the Gospel according to Alvin, Simon and Theodore. And when asking people to close their eyes in prayer they deem it neccessary to remind people not to do this if they are driving. There must have been some spectacular car crashes in Sacramento.

Wednesday Sep 10, 2008 #

Road Biking 2:30:00 [1]

XC mountain biking around Spooner Lake and the Flume Trail.

Running 25:00 [1]

Poker (-$390) 5:00:00 [0]

Cash game. Lost $390 and I've not even got to Vegas yet. I think that the laws of maths must be different over here.

Tuesday Sep 9, 2008 #

Running 1:50:00 [1]

Along the Rubicon Trail from Lake Tahoe.

Monday Sep 8, 2008 #

Running 25:00 [1]

Road run at Lake Tahoe.

Poker (-$90) 4:00:00 [0]

I could resist the urge no longer so hot footed it over the stateline into Nevada. Not quite the introduction to American poker I was hoping for tho as I proceeded to lose $300 within the first 60 seconds. Hmmm. Cash game. spend $450, won $360.

Sunday Sep 7, 2008 #

Road Biking 2:00:00 [1]

Downhill mountain biking on Mammoth Mountain. It took an hour (and several crashes) until someone pointed out that the brake levers are the other way round over here. Not that this stopped me crashing. I think it was also due to a lack of skill, balance, coordination and talent.

Running 50:00 [1]

Around Red Meadows near Mammoth Lakes.

Saturday Sep 6, 2008 #

Running 1:20:00 [1]

Cathedral Lakes from Tuolumne Meadows.

Friday Sep 5, 2008 #

Running 50:00 [1]

Lembert Dome from Tuolumne Meadows.

Thursday Sep 4, 2008 #

Running 3:40:00 intensity: (1:30:00 @1) + (2:10:00 @3)

Run up Half Dome (8842') from the campsite (3972'). I'm not used to these dizzy heights in the lowlands of England and I could feel the altitude by the top. Was looking forward to the food which I'd carted to the summit until some big bird (feathered variety) stole it. The guy on the radio suggests that it's probably a punishment from God. That God dude does seem to work in very strange ways, but who am I to argue with their irrefutable evidence.

Wednesday Sep 3, 2008 #

Running 2:20:00 intensity: (55:00 @1) + (1:25:00 @3)

I tried to let the holy spirit into my life like the guy on the radio told me to but it didn't seem to work so I went for a run from the valley up to Yosemite Point (6936') instead.

Tuesday Sep 2, 2008 #

Running 1:00:00 [1]

Around Tenaya Creek and Mirror Lake.

Road Biking 1:10:00 [1]

Biking around Yosemite valley.

Running 1:00:00 [1]

Evening run up to Sentinel Dome and Taft Point from Glacier Point.

Monday Sep 1, 2008 #

Running 1:00:00 [1]

Run around Yosemite valley. My car radio has 6 presets, all of which are tuned to bible bashing stations. I've become strangely addicted to it although it seems I'm destined for hell which doesn't sound all that great. God bless America. I hope it doesn't cure me of my gambling sins before I hit Las Vegas.
