Run at the athletics track in town which, in the evening time, turns into an episode of Wacky Races. Over the course of the past month I have collided, dodged, been tripped, and overtaken by a motley assortment of characters including: a group of girls holding hands while spanning four lanes; a young kid in a buggy, pushed along by what appears to be his great-great-grandma; an old guy who insists on running clockwise round the track, in the inside lane; and a guy who stopped suddenly right in front of me to take a phone call.

I've never really learnt the whole track etiquette thing but I'm guessing this wouldn't go down too well at Don Valley. On the other hand the number and range of different people who all converge on the running track at night is cool to see.

Run at the secondary athletics track as the main stadium was being used by the Abundant Life Evangelical Festival. I was serenaded by everyone's favourite Christian rock superstars, the Jesus Rangers, and an American nutter singing religious covers of Boyzone classics as I ran very slowly around the track. It's what dreams are made of.

Too lazy to head outside during the day in the heat so forced myself down to the hotel gym at 11pm for an exciting session on the elliptical while watching poker on my iPad.

Biked out to the 700th Anniversary Complex north of town - a modern sports facility with two athletics tracks, football stadium, gym, velodrome, tennis/badminton/squash courts, swimming pool, shooting range and golf course. It's almost deserted during the day and every sports facility costs less than a quid to use. Went to the gym, bought a coconut for 40p, played tennis, bought another coconut and then rode home.

Bought a secondhand mountain bike so took it on its maiden voyage from our apartment out to Huai Tueng Thao lake north of Chiang Mai.

Reet, so exactly fifty days to go until the deadline for a weight loss bet with Bryn. I need some motivation so I figured a return to Attackpoint might help for the final push and give me a chance of finally winning a bet against the kiwi luckbox.

The Bet: to lose a quarter of my body weight (25 kg) in 5 months.
The Deadline: 8th January 2014.

I moved to Thailand in August and after living in Bangkok for 3 months I dropped 18 kg from a starting weight of 100 kg. Since moving up north to Chiang Mai a few weeks ago progress has stalled and I've even gained a bit of weight back. It's not looking good at the moment but time will tell.

Started with a run at the local athletics track in Chiang Mai.
