Negative points this week and so I've plummeted back down the table with 9 points. Which is not very surprising since I spent most of the week substituting training with chocolate.

Note
(rest day)

No running or cycling for the last couple of days as my head is a bit screwed after stacking it on the snowboard yesterday and landing on my head. After 14 hours sleep last night though, I should be good to go again tomorrow as I don't want Seamus and Bendover to forge an unsurmountable lead over me.

Snowboarding 40:00 [1]

Short snowboarding trip up to Coronet Peak.

Tuesday Sep 23, 2014 #

Snowboarding 1:20:00 [1]
weight:76.3kg

The perfect combination of meteorological conditions today: fresh snow in the mountains with excessive wind speeds grounding the paragliding flights (so I get the day off work), resulting in a rare snowboarding trip up the Remarks. In other news, following five years living on New Zealand's North and South Islands, it looks like I might be about to join Messrs Crane and Baker on New Zealand's less developed West Island.

Road Biking 30:00 [2] 12.5 km (2:24 / km)
ahr:159 max:171 weight:76.3kg

One week down in the Biggest Loser Challenge and 21 points on the board. A solid and, I fear, unsustainable start. Onwards and upwards.

Running 40:00 [2] 7.9 km (5:04 / km)
ahr:176 max:186

Run back home from town, along the lake track. After comparing my heart rate data with other people on Attackpoint, I'm not convinced that having an average heart rate of 176 while "running" at over 5 min/km is overly healthy. Anyone know how this heart rate malarky works? Does it have the positive consequence that I will burn more calories, so I can eat more chocolate and still lose weight?

Snowboarding 1:00:00 [1]

Last night snowboarding for this winter, up at Coronet Peak.

Road Biking 40:00 [2] 16.0 km (2:30 / km)
ahr:142 max:152

Friday Sep 19, 2014 #

Running 20:00 [2] 3.9 km (5:08 / km)
ahr:157 max:177

Short run along the lake track to Frankton, but only made it part of the way back home before grinding to a halt.

Snowboarding 1:20:00 [1]

Snowboarding up at Cardrona in the afternoon. Made it over 50,000 vertical metres of riding during the winter season today.

Road Biking 45:00 [2] 18.0 km (2:30 / km)
ahr:156 max:169

Wednesday Sep 17, 2014 #

Road Biking 45:00 [2] 17.9 km (2:31 / km)
ahr:160 max:172 weight:77.6kg

Day 3 and I've already dropped 0.8 kg from my starting weight, with an average loss of 0.4 kg per day. By linear extrapolation, using the current tangent line, I can accurately predict that I will be down to 35.6 kg by the end of the year, thereby achieving a total points score of 428. Screw the 5km race part, there doesn't seem much point in running if it's going to be this easy to get points. I've done the math. Went for a cycle though, just in case.

Snowboarding 1:15:00 [1]

Fresh snow in the mountains overnight so headed up to Coronet Peak for an afternoon of snowboarding.

Running 25:00 [3] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)
ahr:177 max:191

Evening run from town, around the lake and back home. It took 24:37 to run 5 km and I was screwed by the end - sub 20 minutes seems a long, long way away at the moment.

Road Biking 40:00 [2] 15.3 km (2:37 / km)
ahr:149 max:166 weight:78.4kg

Day one of the Inaugural World Series International Pro-am Celebrity Invitational Attackpoint Biggest Loser Challenge, proudly sponsored by Fergburger. A truly international field has been assembled consisting of Bendover (from the UK, currently living in Spain), Middleditch (from the UK, currently living in NZ) and Seamus (from Scotland, currently living in the UK). The pre-fight weigh-ins have taken place and, following an early betting frenzy at Ladbrokes, the trifecta odds on the three contenders have settled down and now stand at:

8/11, 91.2 kg,   Bendover - the odds-on favourite with racing pedigree
6/4,   78.0 kg,   Seamus - the lightweight Scotsman
e/1,   78.4 kg,   Middleditch - the outsider

One point gained for every 0.1 kg of weight lost and for every second run under 20 minutes for 5km by the end of the year. Let battle commence.

Short snowboarding session up at a warm and slushy Coronet Peak. Winter is definitely on the way out in NZ.

Snowboarding 2:00:00 [1]

No work today as the wind was too strong up the mountain so we headed up to Cardrona instead. Not managing much cycling or running at the moment as the old legs are always too screwed after snowboarding, but the snow is rapidly melting so won't be able to use that excuse for much longer.

Snowboarding 1:30:00 [1]
weight:77.1kg

First time snowboarding up at Cardrona on the Crown Range. Well worth the longer drive from Queenstown on a sunny and blue sky day up the hill, at an almost deserted ski field.
