The Mission Beach Adventure Race.

4 km kayak from the mainland over to Dunk Island where I managed an impressive ten metres before capsizing. 147 of the 150 competitors finished ahead of me. On the positive side I was faster than 2 people.

7 km hill run on the Dunk Island trails to the top of Mount Kootaloo and back down to Coconut beach.

4 km kayak back to Mission Beach with slightly more success this time as I've finally worked out a sporting benefit to being an oceanographer. A cunning combination of calculating the littoral currents along with some trigonometry ensured I took the optimum route back and didn't get overtaken by too many people.

23 km mountain biking along the beach and around the Licuala forest track.

3 km run along the beach to finish.

Long run/walk/climb up to the highest point in Queensland, Mount Bartle Frere (1622m), from the Tablelands. Long slog up through the rainforest to the summit, which consisted of more rainforest and no views. Unless you stood on tiptoes on a boulder where you could see mostly rainforest but also some clouds. Bonza.

TRR 25 min tempo run along Ross river. Townsville was on the news today after a tsunami alert on the North Queensland coast. Which isn't great news when you live on the beachfront. How the media guys expected to find a tiny tsunami wave in an ocean full of massive waves is beyond me though.

I started a long run but gradually ground to a halt. The end of winter is nigh - welcome to the tropical summer. I've adapted to the heat but the humidity is a killer and has kicked up a few notches this week. I guess that running in the middle of the day doesn't help but there's bugger all chance of me getting up at 5am for the club run.

North Queensland Athletics Championships 5km. 17:27. 3rd place behind Hamish and some guy from PNG. My first ever track race. And also my last. Australia is slowly converting me to the dark side - first road running and now a track race. I need to repent before I turn into Baker, albeit a slower and fatter version.
