Second of the weekly 5km races in Wellington and I finished a whopping 11 seconds faster than last week in 19:32. If I continue to advance at this rapid rate of improvement then in 5 weeks time I'll ... still be rubbish. But give me 10 weeks and I'll be ... nope ... still slow as. Next target is Piret who beat me by 25 seconds tonight.

Since I'm not allowed to run much anymore I've moved over to the dark side and joined a gym. Most people join a gym, attend religiously for a few weeks and then quit but I've taken the opposite approach by joining 3 weeks ago and only going for the first time today. A soul destroying experience mitigated only by the fact that all the cardio machines have built-in TV screens so I can watch the footy.

Hill run in Makara Peak Mountain Bike Park. Up Koru, Sally Alley and the 4WD track to the top and back down Zac's and Varley's to Karori. Awesome area but the NZ track naming people need to up their game if they want to compete with the mighty Townsville tracks of Wobbegong, Spiderbait, Beefwood and Quattro Gusti.

Headed out on the road bike around the coastline surrounding Wellington finishing with a climb up Happy Valley Road which, despite the name, was far from happy. Big Chuffing Hill That Nearly Killed Me Road would be more accurate.

Time to start training again as, following a couple of months of travelling and poker, I'm the heaviest and most unfit that I've ever been. Ran the weekly Wellington 5 km race along the waterfront with the aim of setting a horrendously slow benchmark time which I can only improve on, a feat expertly achieved in a time of 19:43. Onwards and upwards.
