Orienteering race 22:04 [5]*** 3.9 km (5:39 / km)
spiked:14/16c
JIRCS Relay. 2nd. matthew vokes came back 3rd then chris owens brought us up to 1st. started about 10sec ahead of spongey. we had the same gaffle. i was just ahead until the control before the spectator control. i entered the wood and headed off in the wrong direction...spongey did the same but i quickly realised when i saw the track probably lost 20-30sec. spongey was now right behind me through the spectator. started heading to the wrong crossing point to 11 and he got ahead. both of us took a few seconds to spot the control at 12..was hidden by long grass. ran round the bottom of the green to 13 while spongey went round the top - made no difference.

realised we were getting very close to the end of the course now. we both pushed as hard as possible up the hill to 15 then spongey opened up a 5 metre gap to the last control through the grotty wood. he punched then a girl got in the way as i was about to punch so had to fight for the box a bit. spongey now had a few seconds on me. tried to catch him on the sprint finish but couldn't quite do it. exciting race but a little disappointed i lost out at the last moment.

all our other teams did really well and we won!!! go north west!!

Saturday Jun 28

Orienteering race 55:53 [5]*** 9.4 km (5:57 / km) +230m 5:18 / km
spiked:17/22c
JIRCS individual. very easy open army area, no real navigation was needed. Kris Jones caught me up 2min at no 7. i made 1min mistake on 5 due to bad route choice and not seeing the control because it was on the floor. then at no 7 i didn't read the detail and lost maybe 15sec. kept behind him until no 10. we made a small mistake at no.9 - looking at another set of pits too early.

was slightly ahead until no 16, made a mistake at 13, i could see the control but i didn't think it was mine..it seemed too far along, Kris also hesitated here. took a different route choice to 19 but it was pretty much the same. then i couldn't keep up through the last few controls. got beaten by 6 sec and 30sec, only 15ish sec ahead of spongey and dave was 30 sec behind him

very tight race and very physical.

Friday Jun 27

Running race 4:48 [5]1.5 km (3:12 / km) vdot: 57.0
1500m at sports day. won by a good margin but i didn't want to be tired for the JIRCS, so didn't push myself as hard as possible.

Tuesday Jun 24

Orienteering race 44:07 [4]***** 5 km (8:49 / km)
PASSED MY DRIVING TEST TODAY! pleased with only 2 minors :)

shame i had a disaster at Big Covert. wasted a total of 5min at no1 and 2. i was undershooting everything, i think this was becasue a few days ago i was running on a 1:2500 and 1:5000 map. Mike caught me up here and i kept getting away from him then messing up the next control mainly from not running far enough. just couldn't get back into the 1:10 000 scale. allwell i will make sure i run very well at the JIRCS. come on north west!!
