Orienteering 51:08 [4] 10.23 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

another awful race
was mentally gone
started off badly - made a bad parallel error and got confused with the big tracks and small paths.
2 was ok
3- not really much on the map so took a bearing. crossed the first path but couldn't make sense of the map at all. they were form lines on a 2.5m contour map so they were trying to map features about 1m high :S. at this point I realised the map was 1:15000 so I thought I hadn't gone far enough. carried onto 4 without realising I hadn't gone to 3. really annoyed when I was told at the finish!
4 - took ages to find 4 itself
5 - crap bearing - also dropped short again
6 - some fast swede caught me up so I decided to try and keep with him.
took a different route and got to the 'path end' (which wasn't the end of the path!) first but then read the wrong codes so stood around for 20 secs looking confused
7- finish. was ok but not great. had a control in the awfully mapped bit at the end again. again, couldn't find the stream and lost another 1.5 mins trying to find it

not a great end to BUOT

Orienteering warm up/down 8:38 [1] 1.65 km (5:14 / km)
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

warm up
felt much better today. wasn't coughing up as much crap and legs felt better so was looking forward to some good o

Orienteering race 56:40 [5] 11.41 km (4:58 / km)
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

spring cup classic
started off well on 1 and 2.
3 was a long leg - took a good route and what I thought was a good attackpoint. missed the control by about 15m and didn't see it. mapping was awful with loads of detail in the area not mapped. went out and relocated twice and luckily saw it after the 2nd attempt - lost about 5mins which was pretty annoying because the rest of the race wasn't too bad
4 and 5 were ok - route choice could have been better
6 - some weird mapping of some vegetation - again didn't see the control. lost about 1 min running back out to the path and checking i was in the right place
7 - not great. red lined it but wasn't confident enough of where i was so stopped too early - 20 secs lost
8 - got caught by a foreigner and stayed with him for the rest of the race. control was ok - bit low
9. took a straighter route so caught some time
10. again 2 different routes - both similar in time. got distracted near the control circle so lost a few secs
11- easy short control
12- 2 different routes - his was slightly quicker but I was we both hesitated in the control circle.
13 - rushed too much - looked on the wrong sie of the hill and had to loop back - 30 secs lost.
14 - good
15 - awful mapping in the area. was looking for a non-existent 'wet' ditch next to some 'rough open'. ended up in a similar 'open' area and got really confused. eventually landed on the control by luck. 2 mins lost.

quite pleased overall considering I was ill. seemed to running pretty quickly even though the lungs weren't at full capacity. still quite a few annoying mistakes - think i could have taken a few out if i was feeling better

Orienteering warm up/down 13:21 [1] 2.09 km (6:23 / km)
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

warm up

Orienteering 34:29 [2] 5.96 km (5:47 / km)
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

still not feeling great so cut the long/short legs to try and save some energy for the race later.

was orienteering quite well, just couldn't push the running.

Orienteering warm up/down 9:23 [1] 1.12 km (8:23 / km)
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

warm up before night race, wasn't feeling too bad.

Orienteering race 35:43 [3] 5.7 km (6:16 / km)
shoes: Walsh PB Ultra Extreme

an awful race - didn't have my head switched on at all. crappy headlight didn't help but don't think that was the problem.

1. drifted left and took a while to relocate
2. decided to take it easy round the paths, was ok but not that quick
3. really short leg but way of to right. relocated off 4
4. knew where it was
5. ok. went to wrong junction at first but knew where I was
6. took a good route. got really confused with the vegetation. was in the right place but went about 10m away from the control and didn't see it (even though it had reflective strips :S) wondered around for ages trying to make sense of the vegetation and eventually found 6. decided to give up at this point cos I felt crap and didn't see any benefit of continuing.
6-finish. totally switched off and took aaagggeeesss to get back. made a big parallel error and got really confused. was glad to get back again!

talk o with kris smith
bit of a wobbly start but really good from then on. excellent route execution, just took a bit of time to spot the best route/safe route at the start

running time = 52:26

Note
(sick)

felt like crap in the afternoon so went to sleep instead of more training

Running 12:33 [1] 2.9 km (4:20 / km)
(injured) (sick) shoes: New balance M768

cold has gone right into my chest now. tends to stay around for while which isn't so good :(

thought i'd go for a short jog to see if i could cough anything out; it worked a little. right knee is much better - probably because i've been doing nothing. felt the left knee a bit for some reason though.

if i hadn't paid for it already, would definitely not go to spring cup in this state - however, might as well go along now and just hope the chest gets better. will have to wait and see whether i can race or not.
