Running 11:43 [3] 1.5 mi (7:49 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2008-2009)

I ran to northacres and decided to do some "hills", cause all the cool kids are doing it.
2 repeats, with between 30 seconds and a minute of rest between each one. I didn't want to do anything too killer. I'm hoping I timed this correctly.

Running hills 33 [3] 0.09 mi (6:06 / mi) +8m 4:51 / mi
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2008-2009)

Up the northernmost hill at northacres

Running 46 [3] 0.1 mi (7:40 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2008-2009)

aaand back down

Running hills 33 [3] 0.09 mi (6:06 / mi) +8m 4:51 / mi
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2008-2009)

I was impressed that I had managed to do these at the same pace.

Running 10:24 [3] 1.25 mi (8:19 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2008-2009)

and the rest of the run.

Stretching/Yoga 10:00 [3]

Manual Labor 30:00 [1]

Bundling, hauling.

Running 23:05 [3] 2.93 mi (7:53 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2008-2009)

Up to Shorecrest, around the baseball field once, around the track 3 times. One of my laps I ran at "between :85 and :90", and hit :88, so I was happy. (I have done zero track work since I ran a mile a month ago for the AP 1600m challenge.) My right knee feels a little funky, but I don't think it's serious.

Stretching/Yoga 7:30 [3]

Manual Labor 1:00:00 [1]

Pruning, hauling.

Running 25:54 [3] 2.88 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2008-2009)

Shorecrest, only twice around the track and baseball fields.

Stretching/Yoga 2:00 [3]

Quads and calves only. (it was dinner time, and there were pork chops!)

Note

Huh. I only ended up 4 away from being an alternate. And I know I'm better than 2 of the people in front of me. (well, if I'm fit...)
8) Excited for next year.

Sunday Apr 12, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

I spent the day with b-wade and hunted some Easter eggs.

Saturday Apr 11, 2009 #

Note

Is it bad that I'm excited that I have a rest day tomorrow?

Running warm up/down 10:01 [3] 1.11 mi (9:02 / mi)
shoes: VJ Falcon (2009-?)

A lot of ones in this time.

Orienteering 2:13:29 [4] *** 9.22 mi (14:29 / mi)
shoes: VJ Falcon (2009-?)

I probably should've worn my Brooks, but oh well. Having the no-slip was useful on the first few miles of trails.

I put in some superfeet insoles, and these feel much better, which is good, at least.

Description crossposted from comment:
I just did my first 3 routes at the beginning, and then sort of a general idea of the sweeps I'd make of the controls, and ended up with a raw score of 1225 (Huw only got 1500) out of 1975. I had probably 20 minutes of time lost due to error (and 15 minutes of that was on 1 control), and 10 minutes of time lost due to walking, and a total time of 2:12ish (so minus 600 points for lateness - 50 points a minute =/). I was pretty happy with that, all things considered. The map was not very good. =/

Orienteering warm up/down 8:20 [2] 0.69 mi (12:05 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 471 (2006-2009)

Part of this was done barefoot.
Short training course by Eileen (Breseman). I ran it slowly so it could be my warmup/down.

Stretching/Yoga 10:00 [3]

Friday Apr 10, 2009 #

Running 9:14 [3] 1.07 mi (8:38 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2008-2009)

Up to Hamlin

Orienteering 22:42 [3] *** 1.6 mi (14:11 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2008-2009)

I did the first 10 or so controls of the Ultimate Night O spring '06 at Hamlin, got frustrated, decided to go home instead of the last 2 controls, which would add 20+ m of climb and maybe 300m of running.

I was outrunning my navigation, which was really weird. I just wasn't able to read the map while running for some reason. I was also having trouble executing routes... It's possible that this was in part due to how much the park (but not the map) has changed since before winter '06 (huge windstorm), but I'm not sure.

Running 6:06 [3] 0.8 mi (7:38 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2008-2009)

back home... it's all downhill. 8)

Stretching/Yoga 10:00 [3]

Note

I figure I should update you all on my college status -- here's my final tally, in terms of schools:

Denied:
MIT
HMC

Waitlisted:
CMU

Accepted:
UR
Northeastern
William and Mary
Tufts
... that other one... oh, George Washington

I'm trying to get off the waitlist at CMU and will probably (97%) go there if I get in, otherwise it's UR (Rochester) where I'm in to a 5 year master's program.

Manual Labor 2:30:00 [1]

Pruning, raking.

Running 47:54 [3] 5.0 mi (9:35 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2008-2009)

I decided I needed some good ol' ell ess deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, so the whole o-training thing fell by the wayside.
Hamlin, 2 (big+small) loops, 2 laps around fields 1-4.
There was a significant amount of climb.

Stretching/Yoga 10:00 [3]

Golf 1:00:00 [1] 1.5 mi (40:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Progrid Jazz (2009)

With mi familia. It was good times.
