Orienteering race 1:10:20 [5] 9.19 km (7:39 / km) +492m 6:02 / km
ahr:135 max:149 shoes: Apr 2010 VJ Falcon

Fun race on a good map of a quality and tough area, not bad for an event that had no map and no courses two weeks ago!

Started off fairly well in Polmaise other than a 20sec visit to the wrong re-entrant at #2, and was in the lead at #6.....thought I was being careful at #7 but somehow got in the wrong block amongst the little paths and rhodo thickets, over 3 mins lost and down to 18th place!

More time (nearly 2 mins) lost overshooting #9 (paranoid about going too low, went too high).

Enjoyed the navigation challenge of the Sauchie section but sure enough was punished every time I was sloppy with fine navigation in circle.....
1 min too far right and wrong re-entrant at #12,
30s off line at #15,
30s should have found better line to #18,
30s wrong re-entrant too far left at #20,
30s complex slow route to right not simple route to left at #21.

Steve Nich won in 60, Dave R 66, Martin W 68, Ben 69. Claire Ward ran 62 despite some early misses.....

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3] 2.5 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: Apr 2010 VJ Falcon

To the start thinking that it looked a big drop down and then climb back up from Polmaise to the top part of Sauchie.
Back from finish in the pouring rain thinking that it was sunny when I went to the start.

Orienteering race 36:17 [5] 7.24 km (5:01 / km) +131m 4:36 / km
ahr:145 max:155 shoes: Brooks Ghost

Been looking forward to running here ever since organising the WOC selection race last year - finally got the chance and it was fun as expected.

Still not feeling quite there with the running, going okay but no real zip and feels like I am having to force it all a little bit.

Lost about 40-50 secs through 5-6-7 and maybe 30secs through 20-21 (one time loss following another each time, noted....).

Dave Robertson won in 34:40 with Martin W on 35:01, I was third without winning a single one of the 24 splits. Jase was less than a minute behind me and moving v well, lost the race by blowing 4 mins in the middle by trying to take them out of order.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Brooks Ghost

To start/back from finish. A little bit of warming up at the start but not really enough.

Was going to play my rest day joker. Then I remembered that jokers are only valid until midday today. So instead I went round Leckie, up the hill the steeper way round. Felt better for it. I think.

Hmmm. Bit of an abject session really.

Held up at work so didn't get to the Uni until 7pm, plus feeling a bit run down (sore throat, mouth ulcers etc). Thought I would be fine though, particularly as the day of lashing rain had turned to beautiful sunny evening.

Felt okay jogging out but when I started the session then just had no spring in my legs right from the outset. Meant to do 5 sets with a possibility for 6 but instead times were tailing off badly so almost stopped after 3, made myself do one more as 3 sets is a very short session! Worked hard on the 4th set and times didn't get any worse.

Couldn't get heart rate up either so just writing it off as a bad session and planning on getting some more sleep!

Headed home via Sainsbury's - never wise straight after a session so led inevitably to a junk food blitz, feel better already :)

Running 29:20 intensity: (16:18 @2) + (13:02 @3) 4.46 km (6:35 / km) +150m 5:38 / km
shoes: 2010 Inov8 Roclite

Jog out over bridge and up the Beast. Back round the woods then the loch.

ahr:128 max:141 shoes: Brooks Ghost

Just me and Fi at FVO training. And Fi was not staying for the run. But the light evenings are here so all good, went off through Hermitage, up Logie Kirk road (passing a guy on a bike, always good!) and then along past Dumyat up to Sheriffmuir (nice new road surface part of the way which will improve the cycling experience there a bit). Back down via Kippenrait Glen and then along the bottom of Minewoods. Short of sleep and under-fuelled so flagging a bit by the end.

Got back to find Jase had put in a late appearance and been for his own run. Pleased to see him as that meant we could both go to the Westerton!
