Orienteering 6:09 [3] 1.06 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: Brooks Ghost Mar 2017

Ultrasprint, Victoria Park
Each round 20-25 controls, no codes, 30s penalty per wrong control

Course A
Took it steady and safe. I thought....punched the wrong tree at #17, hmm

Orienteering 6:38 [3] 1.14 km (5:48 / km) +2m 5:45 / km
shoes: Brooks Ghost Mar 2017

Course B
Steady and safe again, got them all correct this time.
Looked at the results for the first time after this round, realised I was going too steady and (with my 30s penalty) would miss the top four (qualifiers for final) even if I won the last round.

Orienteering 5:23 [3] 0.98 km (5:31 / km)
shoes: Brooks Ghost Mar 2017

Course C
Marginally shorter, pushed harder, much nearer the winner (Martin W was Men Vet winner for all three races).

Finished 6th overall in Men Vet qualification, without the penalty would have been 5th but 4th was more than 30s ahead.
That seemed okay until Mick Brett's calf meant he dropped out of the final and so fifth place got called up to the final!

Running 8:32 [2] 1.54 km (5:32 / km)

Jog with Martin
1 PM

Orienteering 8:38 [3] 1.53 km (5:38 / km)
shoes: Brooks Ghost Mar 2017

Run round the (butterfly loops) final course, punter start with four people every 15s and so very crowded!

Did it okay except for thinking I entered the maze from the south when actually it was the west, punched the wrong side of the central tree (four flags on it) and as a result then couldn't work the next one out..

London City Race
Ran okay for 25mins or so, but already knackered by then, got irate at the wrong description at #13 and my stupidity there (should have seen the flag anyway), then made a proper hash of crossing the Barbican not once but twice.

On the positive side my foot seemed largely okay after yesterday even if my legs were sore!

Orienteering 24:45 [3] 4.64 km (5:20 / km) +12m 5:16 / km
shoes: Brooks Ghost Mar 2017

Prologue, Wapping

Late start which meant darkness and so headtorch needed. Missed the torrential downpour though!

Good fun although some of the flags were faded and collapsed (and/or hidden in bushes), very hard to see in the dark.
Just couldn't see the one in the canal towpath tunnel, ran straight past it twice.

A couple of minor errors and (on an excellent course with lots of tricky decisions) didn't always spot the best route. Mostly decent though, just unfit!

Running 13:30 [3] 2.2 km (6:08 / km) +5m 6:04 / km
shoes: Brooks Ghost Mar 2017

Run back to Limehouse just in time for dinner :)

Orienteering 24:40 [3] 4.43 km (5:34 / km) +65m 5:11 / km
shoes: Brooks Ghost Mar 2017

FVO sprint race, Coxet Hill

Steady cautious run round on the new map. Bad start when I couldn't see #1 (as it was in the wrong place) then headed off the wrong way from #2 (butterfly central control). Horrifically unfit though.

Foot no worse afterwards which is hopeful.
