Note
(rest day)

Today was the first time for a while that I felt like I could have done a run, having run the previous day. So looking more positive for the 6-days - in the meantime taking today and Saturday off!

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Hmm. Could feel yesterday's run. Wouldn't have wanted to try to run again today.

6 PM

Running warm up/down 24:00 [2] 3.5 km (6:51 / km) +200m 5:20 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon 2011

At Sauchie with the posse for some pre 6-Days training on leftover maps from the SOL - jog to start and back from finish. Set off without letting my Garmin pick up the satellites properly....

Orienteering 37:00 [3] 4.3 km (8:36 / km) +200m 6:59 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon 2011

.....then forgot to restart my watch when I started! Gave Jase the slip by going to completely the wrong hill at #3 and never visiting the correct site (where he was kindly waiting), then let Rog get away when I made a large error leaving #6, relocated incorrectly and eventually discovered myself back near #6 again!

On the plus side then running was more comfortable than on Sunday despite all the fallen trees and brashings to negotiate - and a lot different from how it would have been had I tried to run yesterday. Not quite sure yet if I am on the mend but taking today as a positive step.....

Unsurprisingly sore today. Physio mid-morning. Run again tomorrow. Physio again Wednesday.

Running 2:22:46 [3] 27.2 km (5:15 / km) +410m 4:53 / km
shoes: Brooks Ghost 2011

Not so sure beforehand whether this was a good idea or not, but was also thinking that if I am at all serious about running a time at Berlin then I need to start getting some runs of decent length in as it is now five weeks since the 30km North Downs race.

And if no long run this week, doing the 6-Days next week would leave me with seven weeks to go and no long run in the previous seven weeks....

Injury didn't seem too bad, just niggling, but despite that felt awful for the first half hour, took a lot of concentration to keep going. Then after about 40mins I suddenly realised I was feeling better and starting to take in the amazing views I had barely noticed until then. Enjoyed it for a while even with the rather unexpected 2km uphill on the Kippen road (should have checked the map!).

If only I had eaten enough in previous 24 hours and worn a camelbak (it was a glorious cloudless day after all), then the last downhill/flat section might have been fun...instead the last half hour was pretty grim and only the thought of food and drink at home kept me shuffling along. Three pints of squash and an awesome banana sandwich made with fruit loaf the moment I got through the door!

Glad to get it done but a bit horrified at what a struggle it was, hopefully explained by eating/drinking errors! Now hoping all feels okay in the morning.....

5 PM

Road biking 39:15 [3] 17.68 km (2:13 / km) +79m 2:10 / km

Out to chez Longhurst via Stirling and Cornton. BBQ in the sunshine and then croquet on the lawn, don't you know.
8 PM

Road biking 35:40 [3] 16.4 km (2:10 / km) +96m 2:07 / km

Back via Doune.

Running 37:40 [3] 7.22 km (5:13 / km) +200m 4:35 / km
(injured) shoes: Brooks Ghost 2011

Leckie, clockwise today. More of the amazing 'summer' weather today had left some of the paths muddier than they often are in winter....
