Day 3, 38th of 105.
Middle Distance today.
3mins lack of care at #2 (my favourite oft-repeated error of reading rough open/scattered trees as semi-open, and so looking for control in open not in trees).
1min route to #4
1min crossing wrong ridge to #5
But the killer was dropping 8mins on a 1.5mins leg to #9, another control on rocks and knolls in amongst green. Confused a re-entrant, never understood the map well enough to re-locate around the circle, never disciplined enough to come right out to fence (or back to #8) and try again.

A bit more care meant not too bad after #9 but well off the pace of flying Alastair Landels, 34:57 (!)
Bill 41, Martin 45, Jase 48, Pete J 66, Brad 79 (even worse than me at #9!).

ahr:126 max:149 shoes: Inov8 Xtalon 2015

Day 2, 43rd of 104.

Still struggling with the running, not helped by ridiculous 6mins dropped wandering around hopefully at #3 instead of reading the map carefully all the way for the last 50-100m.
Another 2min from unintentionally circuitous route to #14, should have pushed through the thicker-than-mapped green on planned route instead.

But Al Landels won in 55:50, Bill ran 56mins for 2nd and Martin 58mins for 4th. Clearly not even running close to the right speed today!
Jase 70, Pete J 74, Brad 92.

ahr:148 max:167 shoes: Inov8 Xtalon 2015

Day 1, 32nd of 107. Roasting hot day for a late start. Still struggling with my left quad/adductor.

Winner 56:48.
Martin 64, Jase 74, Pete J 75, Bill 84, Brad 93.
Bill spent 20mins off the map en route to #4, I was only off the map for 2mins myself (en route to #7).

However.....also lost 1:30 at #1 and 1min at #4, then when we got to the green bushy rocky stuff I lost 4 mins at #9 and 5mins at #10. So relieved to escape back to the easier running I then was too casual and lost 3mins at #11 as well :(

So 15-20mins of time loss and in the top third of the field. Terrain supposed to get harder on the later days. Could be an interesting week....

Orienteering race 16:18 [4] 3.2 km (5:06 / km)
shoes: Brooks Ghost 7 Mar 2015

O'France prologue sprint in Nant.

Not expecting much after only two runs (Jukola and Harvester) in past four weeks. No running and no stretching seemed to have made my dodgy left quad/adductor (legacy of Boston in April) more tight and sore than ever, still uncomfortable even after the warm up.

Waddled my fat unfit way to 24th of 79. A whopping 2:20 behind Bill, who won. Then waddled my fat unfit way to a three course lunch with beers.
5 PM

Orienteering 54:24 [1] 4.2 km (12:58 / km) +43m 12:20 / km
shoes: Inov8 Xtalon 2015

A visit to the model map to check out the wacky limestone terrain.
Could tell the vegetation mapping was a number of years old. Hoping against hope that was the only reason I couldn't make too much sense of the intricate stuff...
