At Nottingham County Park. Several inches of snow in most places. From parking - past the small pond and pavilion 7, down Fawn Trail, to Doe Trail, to Buck Trail, all the way to the West side of the park, to Feldspar Trail, past McPherson Lake to the Chromite plant ruins and back, part of the Fitness Trail and Chrome Trail and then back to the car.

Most of these areas had been fairly lightly traveled - a few sets of human and dog prints and a LOT of deer prints. I didn't see anyone else for over 2 hours - just around parking at the beginning and end.

I started off with my Ariat Terrains and YakTrax, but the YakTrax kept slipping up on the front of my left foot so that my toes were going through part of the bottom. I tried switching them to the opposite feet but the same thing happened (still on my left foot) so I just took them off and put them in my pack. They are quite old so I don't know if they stretched out or if the loose, semi-deep snow was just pushing them around. Traction was not quite as good but it wasn't icy in most areas so I really didn't need them.

There used to be an orienteering map here, and I don't know why we stopped using it. I don't have a copy, and most of the woods looked pretty nasty even at this time of year, so it doesn't seem worth resurrecting. I did come across a few old permanent course control posts along the trails, most of which were pretty rotted.

This was more than enough for my body in my current condition. Legs will probably be very sore tomorrow.
