walking 1:19:22 [2] 7.32 km (10:51 / km)
shoes: Reebok Troo Flight

Original intentions were to go to Warwick today, but I was tired in the morning and I also burned a whole tank of gas yesterday and didn't feel like spending more.

Instead I slept in and later in the day I went down to the Lancaster Junction trail and walked the whole thing out and back.

QOC Little Bennett Night-O - Intermediate

After SVO beginners' event, Winter Meeting, and pizza dinner, headed down South for the QOC Night-O. When I arrived it wasn't anywhere near full dark yet so I took my time getting changed and ready. Finally started when there was just a little bit of light left but the woods were pretty much dark.

First big mistake was going to #3, as I tried to cut higher across the hill. I was too much downhill and left, ran into another control, still thought I was higher than I was, started to get a little freaked out, then bumped smack into the trail where it crosses the ditch and realized I'd been down near the ditch the whole time pretty much. Duh. The only other issue was #5, I just started looking upslope for it too late and went along the ditch much too far until I hit the other downed tree, so doubled back staying higher this time and got it.

This was pretty much the most difficult Night-O I've done (unless you count some of the early Hickory Run events and getting sent down a basically non-existant trail into thick laurel) but it's hard to progress at Night-O skills when there are hardly ever events available. Getting a bit more confident off trail at night, but the first time I get even mildly displaced I do start to worry a bit until I relocate.

Lesson on William. Lots of jumping. Outside for the ENTIRE lesson! Yippee! (Even though we could barely see at the end and cooled out pretty much in the dark)
