DVOA Fort Washington - Relay/Memory Thingy - Yellow

There were an orange map and a yellow map in the same bag, and the courses had some controls in common. I paired with Rob W and he ran the orange course. I had to memorize the next couple legs of yellow and then run without a map until the next common control, when I could look at the map and memorize more.

I beat Rob to all but one of the three common controls, and at that one we arrived simultaneously. So the time for this includes the time I spent waiting at the controls, which was probably 5-7 minutes total.

We finished 7th overall out of 21 teams. There was a handicapping system and we got -10 minutes for Rob's age.

biking 44:36 [2] 10.13 km (4:24 / km)

Parts of the Wissahickon Green Ribbon trail. The first trailhead I went to entered the woods and promptly became single-track right next to the drop into the water, with lots of roots and deadfall. Obviously not what I was expecting so I went back out and drove to the next trailhead I could find, which was at the Philadelphia Cricket Club (which appears to actually be a place where people play golf?) This was more what I had expected - wider gravel trail and in some places paved. Unfortunately I don't know this area well and the trail quickly seemed to end in one direction at a road (although online maps appear to show it continuing, maybe part of it is on the road shoulder?) I rode back the other way and then was able to get going for quite awhile before I got to a hilly section I didn't feel like tackling.
