DVOA Hay Creek - Green

So not on it today... lots of dumb mistakes and some floundering about in the woods.

I blew it right out of the gate on 1, running back up to the bunker outhouse where I had just been, and intending to turn left-ish and go up the trail into the woods. Somehow didn't notice it at all (there was a guy standing there) and instead took a hard left onto the trail that runs flat alongside the yellow. On making the next right, I noticed my compass was making no sense (going SW instead of NW...) and there shouldn't be the open area and I shouldn't still be able to see start behind me... duh. Got back on track, but then upon attacking the control got drawn off by a nearby flag on one of the boulders just SE of control.

Was ok going to 2. Will be interested to see track going to 3, as I thought I knew where I was crossing the stream due to the rocks in it. Somehow ended up well south of 3 at a small patch of rock which I thought was the rock right by the control, but was either the part way SW or an unmapped section.

Ironically walked right into 4 when I was SURE I was wrong because there was much more rock than I expected walking up the subtle spur from the boulder. OK by this point I feel like I cannot trust the rock, or at least my reading of the rock.

Did not see good option to 5 (way off to trails, with extra climb) and went straight. Somehow dropped like 7 or 8 lines without realizing it (no clue at this point!) and hit the big reentrant with lots of rock, so then found the ditch and had to climb back up. Still not clean into the control from there.

6, did not even see indistinct trail option (what a dunderheaded day....) bashed through the green (really not too bad) to the nose. Was a little high, went down to big rock, thought it should be the next one, but there were more big rocks below and it was there. Like 4 or 5 rocks with 2 shown mapped.

Intended to get to the flat trail with some open around it, but got drawn on a slightly different and more uphill route when I saw Svetlana heading that way. She started after me and we had been bouncing back and forth all day on course. Then made another dumb mistake in the trail network. Once on the right trail this control was pretty easy.

The rest of it was simple, thankfully, as I was pretty mush minded by this point. Trail to near 8, cut through the least green area, and used the view of the two houses with and without pool to get to the control. Out to trail, 9 and 10 easy.... and done.

Amazingly it did not look like this horrible navigation day had as much effect as I thought on results... want to see final list though. And pretty sure Svetlana beat me.

Note

Looked at the radar and thought I would have time to sneak in a walk, but made it about 1 block before seeing lightning. This week hasn't been conducive to much of anything.
