NAOC 2016 Sprint - Dartmouth Central Campus - RedY (F-21+)

Campus sprint, my favorite! I only wish I had been less exhausted from the previous day :-( I am still very out of shape from the sciatica and limited exercise of the summer.

Ran out of the start a bit too excitedly, into the cemetery and all the way to the back, only to realize I hadn't paid any attention to contours and had to double back to the trail that went down the lower area. The cliff at 1 was actually a stone mausoleum wall built into the hillside. The whole cemetery was very cool with headstones down in the wooded area, in nooks and crannies on the hillside, etc.

To get out of the lower area, I ran out to the street and along the sidewalk and then up a very huge flight of steps to the dorm area. 2 was on the inner corner of a raised patio area.

At this point my tired brain already started to malfunction and I ran in between two buildings instead of into the middle of the two wings of a single building. I was confused for a second when I realized there was no back wall or covered edges, then figured it out. Went back out to get 3, then went back in between the two buildings again to get 4 on the back of the Y shaped building.

5 was cool, in covered walkway between two sections of building, right by some dorm room doors. Went left of the big building to 6, under the walkway, up two sets of stairs, down one set and around the end.

Straight shot across the grass to 7. Right of the building and olive green then around the end of the building to 8.

Left between the first building and OOB area, then even more left around the second building and into the alleyway to the control at 9. Around to the left at the end of that building, straight across the grass, through the archway between the two buildings to 10.

Right handed to 11, I believe this is where the unmapped wet paint area was located which made the route even more to the right. Left between the two buildings and down into the fenced chute type area for 12. Right of the building to 13. Left of the building to 14.

Luckily had enough run in my legs to keep it up all the way across the spectator area to 15. Slowed again after that. Up the sidewalk to the right of the building, then down the stairs to 16. Right back up the steps, to the right on the road, along the left side of the big U shaped building, and through the corner of the woods to 17 at the cliff foot.

Along the same side of the U building, up through the rough open avoiding the steeper climb in the woods, and left around the observatory to 18. Pretty much straight at 19, had to duck under some rope and go down some old stone steps. Then back up and under the rope again. Straight over to 20. Went down a concrete drainage type thing next to the stairs. Dave Yee taking photos here. Got control and back up the drainage. Down the road to 21, easy, on end of copse.

So fried I cannot remember if I went around the right side of the building or through the stairway to 22. I think it was around the end. Left to 23. And had enough left to run it in.

But there was pretty much not an ounce of run left in my legs after that. Even walking around was tough. I walked back to the car, changed, ate, walked up to the life sciences building to see Morphy, stood in line for that, walked back to the green. Got there after relay had started, so had no guide and no idea where courses went, just walked around a little and took photos of whichever people happened to cross my path.
