DVOA French Creek North - Green

Back to the cold weather again.

First leg along trail uphill, I quickly felt extremely tired and crappy, heavy arms and legs, as often happens with no warmup. Walking even before the first control until I worked out of that.

Continued up the trail to the fire hydrant (teeny black x) and cut into the woods. Almost didn't go far enough but then I saw it peeking out from behind a tree. In here I first saw Svetlana and Janet T, and would see them throughout a lot of the race.

Behind Svetlana and a guy I didn't recognize going to 3. She pulled away and I got in front of him approaching the control and didn't see him again. Saw the very large pit and cut to the left a bit and the big reentrant was obvious.

Nearby Janet to 4, 5, 6, 7. Not having issues with anything. Visibility was very good and I wasn't having trouble holding my bearings and everything was popping up right where I expected. Going to 8 I saw Janet going off to the right and didn't see her again so she got ahead of me somehow here. Coming out of 8 I saw Svetlana running left to right on the trail, having made an error here.

Semi-alone to 9 and 10. I was a little left to 9 but could see the huge rocks, and a little high to 10 but found the terrace and then the next terrace among the rocks and adjusted before crossing the stream.

Long, boring, but not too steep uphill through the woods toward 11. I finally came out on the trail perfectly by the collier's hut, popped over the top of the hill and could see the control right away. Same with 12, once I crossed the rocks I could see it from a long way off.

Back out to the trail, where Svetlana came along again and told me I was walking as fast as she was running. I attacked from the trail junction while she turned down the trail toward the campground and disappeared. As I was entering the control she showed up again from the other direction. Janet just leaving the control too.

Out to the last control, same as the first control, and I decided I would gun it down the chute and pass Svetlana, which I did on the easy downhill run (although she edged me slightly overall).

A good clean day, just didn't feel like I was moving very quickly until that last sprint. (However, pace calculation seems to dispute this. Very fast for FC for me.) Spent some time talking to Donna and Janet P. before spinning by the St. Peter's bakery for a sandwich and then stopping off to visit my friend Lauren at a horse show nearby.

A long, skinny place called Dauberton Park. I had to get my hair cut at 7:30 so I found a place close to there.

Long's Park

Here we go again... back on the wagon, almost exactly one year from the beginning of my sciatica journey. I will probably be repeating all of the weeks at least twice, and possibly more, for a slower build up.
