stretching 12:00 [1]

I taught a beginners' session at Kings Gap this morning/early afternoon, and as it was a lovely day I probably should have run or hiked at the park while I was there. (We use permanent courses, so there were no controls to hang or pick up.) But coming home to take a nap ultimately won out. I haven't had an available day to sleep in for over a month, probably won't for at least another few weeks, and that wears on my night owl biological clock. (Going to bed early doesn't have the same effect, but napping helps somewhat.) I feel like I've really been dragging lately.

Distance from Garmin

My main plan was to stay in the nicer woods, out of the super green and rocky areas. I hiked the entire time and only ran a teeny bit out of the start.

Control order:
31-37-32-41-51-49-56-44-52-61-33-72-42-62-82-85-43-64

I stopped at both bathroom/water stops, oddly enough at almost exactly the 1 hour (between controls 61 & 33) and 2 hour (between controls 82 & 85) marks.

Having more than 20 minutes left, I probably could have gotten at least one more at the end (53) but decided it wasn't worth risking the penalty. I was also pretty tired and ready to be done.

I was amazed to end up 2nd female and 10th overall, considering I didn't feel like I was pushing very hard. Strategy seemed to be a big part of the results.

I was cold in my short sleeves when I arrived at the park, and stupidly had not brought a longer sleeve o top. I debated a bit and then decided to add a regular light hoodie that I had along, and that was probably the right choice. At times (especially climbing) I was warm, but when the wind picked up I was glad to have another layer.
