QOC Quantico Classic/Junior Nationals - Beaver Dam Run Middle - Green (F35+)

The only real error I had here was losing contact on the way to 2, bouncing off the ride after it. Was pretty clean aside from that, executing everything as intended. Took a conservative route to 6, using the indistinct trail along the N edge of the map and attacking from the corner of the big hill. Ended up with Jody from around 9-13, although he got ahead of me leaving 12 but then somehow was behind me again at 13. We couldn't figure out how that happened. Overall a good day, I'm just not fast enough right now.

Didn't do the afternoon relay, despite Sam trying to convince me. I wanted to go back and have the rest of the day with my friend Phil, whose house I stayed at for the weekend. We ended up going back into DC to walk around and had dinner at a British pub.

walking 1:00:00 [1] 2.5 mi (24:00 / mi)

Walking around in DC - completely scuttled my original plans (Newseum and Botanical Garden) due to getting there later than expected. Ended up going to the American History museum for a bit and walking around the tidal basin to the Jefferson Memorial (cherry blossoms mostly gone already)

DVOA Warwick - Green

Not feeling the greatest this morning after a night of segmented sleep and weird dreams. I actually felt better after orienteering. But I was sort of dragging and it shows in these results. I was also slightly off on many controls - it seems like anytime I try to use a bearing at this park, it's not quite accurate. Cool AOWN moment of the day was stepping over a stream between 1 and 2 and looking down to see several garter snakes right under me. Had to be careful to put my foot down without stepping on them.

Pace doesn't look that bad, so I guess everybody else was just faster and cleaner today.
3 PM

map walk 20:00 [1]
6c shoes: Inov8 O-roc 280 Red Redux

I picked up 6 controls, all in the open areas around the start/finish, that really didn't require much in the way of navigation so I won't call this orienteering. Also cleaned up the finish.
