Military (Air Assault Train up) 1:30:00 [4]
Some good old Air Assault train up. A short smoke session, obstacle course with some smoking along with it.

Some fun. Should be a good time.
Orienteering (Boy Scout Course Setting) 59:24 [2] 6.13 km (9:41 / km) +745m 6:02 / km
ahr:135 max:163 shoes: New Balance 2
Barracks to course, set the boy scout course, and back to the barracks. Hurt a little bit because of what physical fitness I have performed in the last few days.

Monday May 26

Orienteering race (Long, WRE, Blue) 2:01:57 [5] *** 16 km (7:37 / km) +2300m 4:26 / km
ahr:171 max:186 spiked:20/23c shoes: O Shoes
Distance/Height is approximate, accidentally turned off Garmin a little way through. Found out and turned back on

Blue, Long - 11.9km - 525M, 1:10000, 5M, WRE

Started good, felt confident. Got screwed up on two where I floundered around for a while and then figured out where I was and corrected. Ended up trading points with Jon Campbell for a bit, often taking different routes and ending up at the point together. Felt really good for a few points that had not really any trails but had some good woods.

Note to work on: more consistent, slow down and perfect.

I think working in areas with huge amounts of trails that are confusing would be great. I also think that I will need to work on a little bit of relocating at certain times, had a little problem with that this weekend.

Error was high but a good learning experience. I will need to account more for energy and physical fitness, both need a little bit of work.

Blue Long - Splits

Sunday May 25

Orienteering race (Middle, Blue) 1:02:01 [5] *** 7.31 km (8:29 / km) +516m 6:16 / km
ahr:172 max:189 spiked:12/18c shoes: O Shoes
Blue, Middle, 4.840KM 190M, 1:10000 5M

Interesting....

Started poor on the first, got okay for second, parallel error on 3, 5 was slow, 6 was weird... Had to use Garmin to reasonably think where I was, 7 was a problem, 9 problem, just slow and little error throughout..

Overall:
Was not in touch with compass and map
Metal compass was screwing up
Good training run

Tomorrow is looking to be clean, not fast.

Blue Middle - Splits

Saturday May 24

Event: US Team Trials

Orienteering race (Sprint WRE Blue) 27:07 [5] *** 5.61 km (4:50 / km) +273m 3:53 / km
ahr:187 max:197 spiked:18/22c shoes: New Balance
Sprint, Blue, WRE, 3.490km, 83M - 1:4000, 5M

Walk to start: WOW! Long, and hilly, but I am for long walks to start to get a better race.

Race. Good, a little long I thought but very good on penalizing you if you weren't looking. Too many olive gardens. All of my problems came from 3 points. I would have been extremely competitive but those points just killed me.

Good learning curve, first blue, haven't orienteering in a little while due to TEEs and still feeling slightly stupid just from those.

Got all the stupidity out of my system for the other two more important races.

Blue Sprint - Splits

Thursday May 22

Orienteering (Course Checking) 1:07:06 [1] ** 6.86 km (9:47 / km) +645m 6:39 / km
ahr:120 max:153 shoes: New Balance 2
Did a walk/jog up to the start for a boyscout course. Walked it to ensure validity of control sites, and clue descriptions. A few alterations but overall pretty good. Shouldn't be too bad. Had fun finishing my last TEE today.

Jogged back.

Ready for this weekend.

Wednesday May 21

Orienteering (Run then Orienteering) 1:52:44 [4] *** 10.05 km (11:13 / km) +902m 7:45 / km
ahr:142 max:175 shoes: New Balance 2
Went out for a run/orienteering training time after my TEE. Decided to take along a course that I created during the winter weekend back in February.

Up to the water treatment facility - 15:18, 231M elevation

Course - It was brutal, I was not feeling it. I noticed the amount of updates needed in certain areas (Soon to occur) when I was trying to use that type of a feature and it was not on the map or the other way around. Went somewhat slow and was able to find everything. The elevation gain on this course was bad, all in two areas. Ended up slipping around quite a bit due to normal shoes being worn. It got annoying after a while. I am sure that orienteering while feeling half-retarded is not the best thing. Should have a much better time this weekend.

Ohh, the coolest thing that happened is that I ran into a pack, somewhere around 10, of baby of what I think were foxes. They were all together until I walked through then they spread out. I don't think that they were expecting anything to come through dense green bushes.

Walk/Run back to my barracks

I have yellow/green stripes on my socks now!

Tuesday May 20

Monday May 12

Orienteering (Mil Land Nav) 1:30:00 [1] 6 km (15:00 / km)
Practiced Mil land nav on a 1:50000 map

ahr:129 max:176 shoes: New Balance
Ran up to the PX (felt pretty good, a little easy overall)

Looked for possible starts, early controls, flow of things for the middle distance.

Ran to the suggested beginning of the last area for the middle, ran through that trying to get a feel for courses, features usable, etc. Good information gained.
