Sunday Aug 10

Orienteering race (Day 2, US Champs 08) 1:10:01 [5] *** 12.38 km (5:39 / km) +431m 4:49 / km
ahr:176 max:187 spiked:17/22c shoes: O Shoes
10.780KM, 220M, 1:15000, 5M, Remarkable Flats

Started out feeling pretty good. Took about 2 points to get into the scale. After I was into the map and scale I thought everything was working pretty well. Few small bobbles and one large one. Was fast but not fast enough.

Course was a runners' course

Finished 4th in my age group behind, Gabe, Greg, and John

Finished 9th overall

*Side note - I think they need to space out runners in the same age group more. Gabe and Greg started 2 minutes apart and Greg was caught and they ended up going through the course together.

Had a lot of fun, good courses and good atmosphere

Red Day 2 - Splits

Saturday Aug 9

Orienteering race (Day 1, US Champs 08) 58:50 [5] *** 10.01 km (5:53 / km) +566m 4:35 / km
ahr:180 max:191 spiked:10/14c shoes: O Shoes
7.670KM 235M, 1:10000, 5M, Diamond Bay -- Elevation ~8000'

Wasn't really sure what exactly to expect from the map since I had not seen any maps of the area. Talked to John Goodwin before my start and he gave me a brief run down of what to expect from mapping compared to terrain. Started out cautious overall. Didn't do too bad, one big mistake (5min) and a few small ones. I ended up a few times correcting myself because of my compass even though I thought I was going the correct direction. Wasn't feeling too fast on my feet.

Ended up 5th in my age group behind Gabe, Greg, John, and Nate

11th overall

Not too bad but I thought I could do better.

Hiking at that elevation really impacted my performance. The view was awesome and there was not that many people.
