South Fork PWFP map. Red. 16 controls. Cool temps in 40's, overcast skies, no rain. Fourth place, a good overall effort! The usual little mistakes. I fell in the creek between control 1 and 2 and was wet the rest of the race. My best was control 4 where I just went up the (very) steep hill and straight there - when others seem to have gone around. I lost about a minute on control 6 when 3 kids doing the orange course asked for help. Since this is actually cheating! and I am I fierce competior! I wanted to just hurry on - but I did stop to point out a spot on the map where they were sitting. (hopefully in my haste I pointed to the correct spot - but in any event they were sitting right on wide trail so they could not have been too far "lost"). Had to go out to the road when I missed control 11. I'd say I was only truly confused on control 14 when a second stream appeared "out of nowhere." Happilly, my confusion resulted in probably less than a minute of standing in the woods with question marks appearing over my head. After staring at the map for that minute or so, I realized I was just too far to the right and closer to a stream intersection than I had intended to be. Hence the "second" stream was just another branch of the same stream I had just crossed, and it had appeared soon after the first crossing because I was close to the intersection. Yay!

Freakishly warm outside today - ran over the bridges and back. Felt fit and recovered from illness. My pace was probably better - slowed up due to traffic light stops.
