| Run (Terrain) 52:06 [4] 9 km (5:47 / km) | ||

| Run round the perimiter of Beecraigs, same route as four weeks ago - smashed PB by three minutes, I'm pleased about this as it was tough going into the wind and driving rain. We may have to add on Cockleroy in a couple of weeks to make the time up to an hour or so for the Wednesday evening session. Walshes/O shoes would be a good idea if it's still as wet. | ||

| Pilates 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| This is definitely doing me some good as I hurt the next day and my core feels stronger whilst I'm running! | ||
| Run (Road/Terrain) 1:04:04 [3] | ||
| shoes: Walsh | ||
| Great turnout tonight for the girls - six plus Jason (honorary girl for the evening) and we managed all on our own, even managed a longer run than the guys. Almost the same run as we did two weeks ago, but this time I didn't feel so good and also felt cold, still need that extra layer... I also wish I'd worn my trainers as there was more road/hard surface this time. Thanks to Jason and Janine for encouraging me up those steep hills - it really does help! It's still pretty dark at 6.30 but not for too long now. | ||

| Orienteering race 1:02:37 [4] **** 6.9 km (9:04 / km) | ||
| shoes: VJ Integrater | ||
| Hedderwick Hill Blue course - wild and windy but sunny day. What a lovely area and I loved running through the sea, along the beach and over the sand dunes. Ran as fast as my legs would carry me but the results are saying to me that I need to be able to run faster and maybe to stop dithering about as well! | ||
| Orienteering 18:30 [3] 1.4 km (13:13 / km) | ||
| shoes: VJ Integrater | ||
| White course shadowing Erica and part of the way with Andrew on my back (weight training comes in many forms). Erica did really well but she still needs lots of practice before being let loose on her own. | ||

| Ace race in the dark, made lots of little gaffs like getting my feet trapped in between fallen trees, falling down steep banks into streams and getting tangled in brambles... and we do this for fun? My compass work was fabulous and I hit most controls pretty much straight on. I mistook a road for a wall, which confused me for a while - these line features seem to be tricky for me these days, good job I'll be doing some white courses this year, perhaps I'll pick up some tips from Erica! Just couldn't run as fast as I wanted to. | ||

| (rest day) | ||
| I was all dressed in my kit ready to head to Beecraigs but have retreated indoors for safety as there are are large trees blowing down! I have cosoled myself by booking accommodation and entering for the French 6 Days...
Being confined to barracks doing washing, hoovering and tidying up is dull. Let me out of here... Hellooooooooooo, is anyone out there....? Is anyone going to the pub after the night O tomorrow? How about the Bridge Inn?

| Pilates 1:00:00 [1] | ||
| Worked hard on quads and core today. Lots of good stretching. | ||
| Night Orienteering race 48:12 [4] *** | ||
| shoes: Walsh | ||
| Crazy steep uphill start, my legs just wouldn't go after pilates and sitting in the car for far too long (sorry I was so late - traffic chaos out of Edinburgh again, the first 3.5miles in 45mins). Still had to use the dodgy compass (new one's in the post) so hung on to those in front for security. Elle took us well past #9 (half way to #10) and we followed like sheep. On the way to #17 I looked across to see everyone following so close that they could have been doing a congo! I led everyone a merry dance round a knoll just before #17 followed a bit later by a bum steer to #20, we lost the line of the ditch and drifted off... I hadn't done up my laces properly in the rush to get ready, I might as well have been wearing slippers (Walshes are soft but not furry) they were so loose that I was useless downhill to the finish. Can't possibly have any excuses for the night champs... Thanks to Fraser and Peggy for giving us a great night out. | ||

| Orienteering race 1:04:53 [3] **** 4.1 km (15:50 / km) +230m 12:22 / km | ||
| spiked:8/14c shoes: VJ Integrater | ||
| Last outing with my dodgy compass or should it have been a dodgy outing with a compass, not sure... I was moving quickly between the controls but had to stand still and wait for my compass settle in order to use it and still I was a bit wayward - very frustrating. I also had to stop and help someone who was even more off course than I was and make sure she got to where she was meant to be, which added a bit of time too. The course was intricate and steep in places but nothing too severe although there was a 70m climb and back down again for the last two controls! | ||
Saturday Feb 16 | ||
| Run 1:06:40 [4] 11 km (6:04 / km) | ||
| shoes: Saucony Omni | ||
| If ever the bat signal was required, today was the day (not that I was anywhere near the sofa). Had to muster up some enthusiasm for a run today after yesterday's disasterous attempt at reps! Set off as the sun was disappearing on the horizon and returned in the dark. Ran along the river, onto and along the canal and round Linlithgow Loch. The palace and loch looked lovely with the pink sky as a backdrop, made the run worthwhile. Felt a lot better than yesterday but with no significant hills it was an easy run but the darkness made me run faster... whoooooo! | ||
Friday Feb 15 | ||
| Run 37:00 [4] 7 km (5:17 / km) | ||
| shoes: Saucony Omni | ||
| Set out to do hill reps. Warm up run along the canal and up the hill towards Beecraigs to what I thought was a good hill to do my first lot of reps for ages. Didn't bank on having a stonking headache due to dehydration and sinus trouble and so only managed three lots of 2min reps before I halted proceedings and had an easy jog back down to the car. Need to get rid of this cold before doing any more of these. I need some company for hill reps, it's too hard on your own! | ||
Wednesday Feb 13 | ||
| Pilates 1:00:00 [2] | ||
| Cor blimey, I'm going to hurt tomorrow. Some new exercises caused a bit of amusement, swimming on your front and running whilst lying on your side. | ||
| Run (Terrain/road) 1:03:01 [4] 9 km (7:00 / km) | ||
| shoes: Walsh | ||
| Fantastic run with the FVO posse, went round the opposite way to the run we did four weeks ago: Bridge of Allan, Mine and Hermitage Woods. Set off at a cracking pace to keep up with the guys. Abi set a good pace for the girls. I felt fab and I guess I'm now feeling the benefits of all this training at last! Thoroughly enjoyed the downhill sections of the run despite going over my ankle on the road section (dodgy rroad camber).
A snowy owl scared the bjesus out of me near the golf course as it hooted as I went past, it lit up beautifully in the trees with my big headtorch, snowy owls are a lot bigger than I imagined. Great AP banter in the Westerton. Veggie Burritos made a popular choice for 5/7 diners but I still can't eat a whole one (JonX can one handed plus seconds and Rosco had his first)!

| Orienteering race 1:04:13 [3] **** 4.5 km (14:16 / km) +160m 12:07 / km | ||
| spiked:7/10c shoes: VJ Integrater | ||
| Absolutely no problem finding the controls but getting there was a major problem today, went off at 90 degrees on some of the legs, which gave me some extra loops and I lost loads of time in the process. Having looked at my (less than a year old) compass I'm not convinced it is levelling properly (the needle is doing a good impression of a see-saw) and it will need some investigation. Altogether it was a pretty terrible run! | ||
Saturday Feb 9 | ||
| Orienteering 35:00 [3] **** 3 km (11:40 / km) | ||

| FVO training at Lossie Forest. Still recovering from virus/cold so took it easy. First exercise was an attack point course and I hit all the controls first time but felt slow on the terrain - Lossie wasn't as runnable as I had remembered it - lots of brashings but still good orienteering. | ||
| Orienteering 54:00 [3] ***** 3 km (18:00 / km) | ||
| spiked:15/20c shoes: VJ Integrater | ||
| Control picking exercise. It doesn't get more technically challenging than this and it was even harder without flags on the SI units. I was going well up to #12 and arrived within 5m of the control and couldn't see it! Ross put me off (he was off course too) and I went away from the control into knoll and depression La La Land. Gary arrived at the scene and we went round in circles doing a sweep before finally finding a decent attack point to get to where I had been ten minutes earlier... Also made a mess of #15 in the green, Claire and Gary were doing a sweep when I arrived and I joined in... again I had been right past the control without seeing it. Cut off from #16 to #23. Was hesitant at #25 and Claire sneaked past me to get it before me. | ||

| Control collecting. Set off after the last starter on the handicap race and arrived at the second control to find everyone waiting at it chatting! It turned out that the second control was missing due to a control collection miscommunication and the race had to be restarted after the one that had been left out was put in its place. I set off again and had two attempts to find #4! I wasn't convinced that #5 was in the right place but found it - good job - and jogged back to the car thoroughly pooped for the day. | ||

| LOC Badge Event at Bouth. Fab area with lots of intricate detail on the 1:7500 map. Great course with lots of route choice - planned by Carol McNeil (my very first orienteering teacher at school back in 1982)! It was pretty rocky underfoot and I managed to go over several times on my (now) very dodgy ankle (definitely will have to tape it from now on). Usual gaff at #1 and a then hesitant at #2 to make sure I got it. Was tired towards the end and had a wee donder off in the wrong direction for a bit, but otherwise I was satisfied with my first L course for as long as I can remember... | ||

| Run (Terrain) 55:06 [3] | ||
| shoes: Saucony Triumph | ||
| Ran around the perimeter of Beecraigs in a bid to perfect this new sport of 'skitenaboot' in the mud and today there was the added bonus of some snow. Was reluctant to go out this morning because of the wind but glad I did as I was well protected in the trees. Enjoyed it today even if it was a bit dark and spooky in places...
It was a complete waste of time washing my shoes last week, I've come to the conclusion that if you do lots of terrain runs it means that you have minging shoes all the time. Who cares...
