Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Tuesday Apr 29

Note
(sick)
Not feeling too good with jippy tummy, which has been lingering for the last week... :{

Not looking forward to the 3Km time trial later, perhaps I should bring a bucket?
C • tactical chunder? 3
Run race (time trial) 15:02 [5] 3 km (5:01 / km) vdot: 36.9
shoes: Brooks GTS
Huge disappointment not to get under 15mins but absolutely thrilled not to be lapped by Janine and absolutely flabbergasted to take one minute and forty-seven seconds off my previous time! I think we shall call this a PB...
Run warm up/down 30:00 [3]

To the track.
Strides, bum kicks, high legs.
Loop o' the loch to finish.

Sunday Apr 27

Orienteering race 1:00:58 [4] ** 5.8 mi (10:30 / mi)
shoes: Brooks GTS
I was rubbish. Couldn't find number #9 as I was in the wrong place - me being disorientated following too much wine the day before - nothing to do with Will destroying the control...

Friday Apr 25

Run (Terrain) 1:10:48 [4]
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw
Friday morning run with Nina around the lovely bits of Beecraigs including Cockleroy. Mud starting to dry out in places but still very boggy in places. Felt good running today and good chat on the way.

Times for this route so far...
12 Jan: 1:20:12
7 Mar: 1:14:11
25 Apr: 1:10:48

Getting faster...

D1 Select Course for the World Schools event at Barr Wood. Went on a big detour from 4-5 having gone from #4 along the wrong re-entrant - hadn't looked at my compass - doh! Also took some dodgy routes through some grot, which slowed me down somewhat and my legs didn't have quite the same bounce having run earlier in the day, also had my tummy rumbling having not eaten since lunch time and it was raining and my hair got in my eyes... apart from all that it was indeed lovely and I enjoyed it all, it was good being out there with nobody to put me off. Fantastic course planned by Stalker Steve, thank you for hanging around in the rain to make sure we got out to try the courses.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]
I think I might have overstretched my groin during an exercise as it hurt later whilst orienteering - ouch!

WEE at Abbey Craig. Up down round and round stomp stomp puff puff crunch crunch. Good course - just what you need at the end of a working day. Managed to copy a control on my map on the wrong crag - oops - lost valuable seconds!

BOC Relays at Culbin - even more orienteering heaven as the sun was shining - it doesn't get better than this...

Last leg of Women's Short. Fared better than yesterday at finding the controls, only lost time on three controls but the time lost for each was around two or three minutes each - far too long! I'm still not confident using my compass for rough bearings and find myself stopping often on longer legs to ensure I'm going in the right direction, also keep veering to the right. I never really bothered using my compass much before - strange but true... I could probably do with some practise bearings in training as soon as possible.

Event: British Long Champs

BOC Orienteering Heaven in Culbin - fantastic! Brilliant course - it was a tough one. Made mistakes at 10 of the controls and lost around 11 minutes in total. This is pretty much unheard of for me and I can only put this down to a combination of a few simple things. Now that I'm running faster I'll have to get my navigation up to speed - an imbalance perhaps? I was also distracted by others - Beccy caught me up twice as did lots of fast but often lost W20E's. Also, I wasn't used to using the Emit brikke and every time I had to turn round the kite to fit the brikke into the control I was disorientated and sure I lost time on extremely poor control flow - although now I have the solution thanks to Rosco (can't believe I hadn't worked that out). Overall I was disappointed with my performance but was pleased with my position - much better than I had predicted. Can't wait to run at Culbin again.

Run warm up/down 9:00 [4]

Warm up dash to the start of the training. Getting to Tentsmuir was a bit of a struggle - probably wasn't meant to have gone in the first place, didn't make it home easily either...

1. Left work at 4.07 and got home at 5.15 having sat in a traffic jam due to the M8 closure/accident (usual journey plus pick up 40 mins).

2. Left home at 5.30 and attempted to navigate using a Multimap map showing the location (using the grid reference), but I failed to ask how to get from the main road to the tracks shown on the map... so I went on a magical mystery tour...

3. Finally arrived at 7.10 and ran as fast as I could to the meeting point in the forest just in time to collect some controls, held the collected controls in my left hand with my compass and my bearing sent me off at 90 degrees wrong...

4. The 1st restaurant (in Dundee) stopped serving when we arrived at 8.30, had to find another - they took ages to serve so we didn't eat until 10.

5. I agreed to give Jamie a lift and as we were too busy chatting, I headed off towards Aberdeen, (Gary phoned to point this out - thanks) after we had turned at the next rab.

6. Dropped Jamie off at Stirling services and noticed that the slip road back onto the M9 was closed for re-surfacing - diversion via J10 Stirling!

A bad day? I'd say so!

Control collecting - good practise for BOC. Good to be in similar terrain.
Run warm up/down 11:00 [3]
Roller coaster warm down through gorgeous sand dune forest - sometimes little bits of lovely make up for the bad days...

Gardening (Strength Training) 45:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks GTS
Cut the grass until the widget came off the mower and left a 3m2 patch uncut. Raked up leaves and some moss came with it. Must have been some good in this activity as the muscles in my sides were sore the next day.

Sunday Apr 13

Run 1:45:31 [3]
shoes: Brooks GTS
Run with Claire and Stewie his "clown" bike around Grizedale Forest. Some paths were too rough for the bike so we took turns to push or carry the bike - good training for carrying packs on the LAMM I suppose. Stewie did really well to keep up and Claire was great on the hills - training for hours on the fells every week is a very good thing.

Run race 59:58 [4] 6.4 km (9:22 / km) +400m 7:08 / km

Screel Hill race. First hill race for me ever! Far to nervous and excited at the start and my heart was all over the place... went off very slowly and had to walk or scramble up the steepest and rocky sections. Felt good when I passed a bloke but he didn't like it so he passed me again... It was really muddy and rocky on the ridge and the decents, also lots of tree roots so I didn't get as much speed out of my legs as I would have liked and did a lot of mincing with the brakes on until... I bombed down the last bit of track to make it back under the hour, but only just. Won a bottle of wine but it should have been a wooden spoon!

Saw Colin Gilmour ('KarriGilmour' - Fraser P's old KIMM partner) at the start, still going strong and asking after all who remember him.

Friday Apr 11

Run 53:16 [3] 9 km (5:55 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw
Run with Nina around Beecraigs in sunshine. This was Nina's first off-road run and I don't think she was very impressed with her once white now brown trainers which were through mud and submerged in bogs for most of the way! At least she has agreed to come back for more - this is good because she does a sub 50 min 10K and she will make me run faster. Today was at a steady pace as I want to be fresh for Screel tomorrow...
Walk 40:00 [2] 2.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
Walkies! The dog (sister's dog is a big fluffy golden retriever) was stronger than me and I had to run to keep up whilst he was on his lead or I would have been in the air...
Stretching warm up/down 5:00 [1]

Run 1:20:00 [4] 12 km (6:40 / km)

FVO run from Penny and Steve's house in Limekilns with Dave, Jason, David, Penny, Louise, Abi and Elspeth. As we started from sea level of course the only way was up, although I managed to trip on a stone embedded in a flat bit of path, I couldn't save myself and down I went and skidded along the ground on the gravel, yoweee! Ended up with a few holes in my hands, a huge bruise on my knee, a skinned elbow and hip and slightly tender ribs! Feeling a bit sore today. Dave peeled off shortly after "cardiac hill" to do a shorter route and the rest of us carried on, poor Abi suffered a terrible stitch and went white - must have been a bad one. It was great to be in a different location for a change and to see Penny and Elspeth in good form.

Sunday Apr 6

Walk 2:04:00 [2]
Mini-mountaineering expedition to the summit of Dumyat. Stopped for a picnic and had lots of snowball fights on the way up, which made it a very long walk indeed. I ended up carrying snowballs and sheets of ice in a 'rescued' plastic bag back to the car park... had to leave the only slightly melted contents behind, though! It was very cold and windy and we all have red cheeks, hoping they're all tired out for an early night...

Friday Apr 4

Note
Having to calm myself after discovering my credit card had been used to order The Dog Collection - all fifty two of them... I wonder who managed that little feat of ingenuity?!

Also having another rest day to see if I can get rid of this cough. Plan is to get the Pilates ball out later...
Fitball 25:00 [1]
Fitball workout - better doing this than nothing at all. Also tackled ironing for two hours - considered a light core activity but won't count this!

Thursday Apr 3

Note
(rest day)
Still in agony from intervals...

Wednesday Apr 2

Run (Terrain) 1:47:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks GTS
Part 1: Run with my Dad at Mabie Forest - good to be back there again training with Dad. Stopped for some stretching at the top of the first hill and was sent off on an extra loop onto the 7Stanes bike route to check out the berms, whilst Dad went along at his steady pace. Think I tired him out but he put in a good sprint up the last hill to get past me... huh!

Part 2: Run with the Lady between 2-3 (Mum) - this time on the Conservation Trail at Mabie. Stopped for a rest to take in the view of Criffel (well ok it was a wee stop), continued on the rest of the way with a few extra loops and got back to the car too soon so we did a warm down to make the time up to the same as Part 1!

Stretching 15:00 [1]
My body is officially wrecked this week, so lots of stretching needed.

Tuesday Apr 1

Pilates 1:00:00 [2]
Run intervals 22:30 [4]
shoes: Brooks GTS
First outing at FVO intervals ever and I tried my best. Not very fast but I think I made a good target for the others to fly past when I started in front. It was a case of splish splash through the puddles on the footy pitch but not so sure that other shoes would have made any difference to my speed...
Run warm up/down 20:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks GTS
I was incredibly late for the session - got stuck with a colleague at work with a query when I should have been on my way to training, had to do a Wonderwoman change out of my work clothes in the car as well. Fortunately for me JonX was also late, otherwise I would have gone to the wrong pitches! Warm up run was at a cracking pace to order to make the beginning of the session - just made it!

Warm down was a less traumatic jog round part of the loch.
