Wednesday Jan 30

Pilates (Core strength) 45:00 [1]
shoes: Bare feet
Another 45 minutes of engaging core. Worked on calfs today, by special request, as they're tight after the weekend, so I'm hoping that I can run better this evening as a result...
Run (Terrain) 55:56 [3]
shoes: Saucony Omni
Depleted numbers tonight... maybe the weather put folk off? It was a tad windy but turned out to be a lovely night as the rain stayed off. Beccy and I followed the guys up onto Dumyat (up a horrible, steep, muddy slope so we were skiting about everywhere) but they went ahead to the top and we turned off just before the top car park and back through Hermitage woods. Felt a lot better up the hills than I usually do so perhaps this training is doing some good after all.

Sunday Jan 27

Orienteering race 59:29 [4] 4.2 km (14:10 / km) +300m 10:26 / km
shoes: Walsh
DNF! No comment.
Orienteered like a donkey to #1 and took three attempts to shimme down the crag to #8 and then I had to cling on with my cheeks flapping in the force of the wind... enough said.
Orienteering race (Shadowing) 18:54 [2] * 1.8 km (10:30 / km)
shoes: Walsh
Shadowed Erica round her white course. At least one of us got the hang of it today...
Swimming 1:00:00 [0]
Paddle and chatathon with Claire and the kids at Leith Waterworld. All turned into prunes!

Saturday Jan 26

Event: Edinburgh Big Weekend

Orienteering race (City/Street) 44:59 [4] * 4.2 km (10:43 / km)
spiked:19/23c shoes: Saucony Omni
Absolutely fabulous darlings. I loved this race and it was so strange to run through the crowds and alleyways in such familiar territory, not that local knowledge of the old town gave me a huge advantage. I totally messed up #16 and #17, which were well hidden and lost my head at #21! At the end of the day, I just couldn't run fast enough but wanted to, need to get down to the intervals...

Friday Jan 25

Run (Terrain) 36:00 [3] 5.5 km (6:33 / km)
shoes: Saucony Triumph
Horrid run in rain and wind at Beecraigs, yukky, muddy and wet. Going out for coffee to be civilised with my chums now... Enjoy your evening jog, hope the rain goes off by then and see you at the AGM.

Pilates (Core strength) 45:00 [1]
shoes: Bare feet
Discovered a new type of sit-up, and it was hard!
Night Orienteering race 40:00 [4] **** 2.7 km (14:49 / km)
spiked:22/24c shoes: VJ Integrater
Brilliant night race planned by Jon X with loadsacontrols - 24 on the short with 9 in the first 5 minutes! It was pretty rough in places and I slipped far too many times for my liking, although managed to stay upright. Beccy and I mucked up #10 letting Abi followed by Louise past. All finished within a short space of time. Well done to Jon for collecting controls whilst baby-sitting Jamie in his buggy and managing to relocate his whereabouts...

Corrieri's was a definite hit, more bookings here please although best go easy on the ice creams next time...

Sunday Jan 20

Event: Warrior Winter Warmer Weekend

Orienteering race 2:03:36 [4] ***** 6.4 km (19:19 / km) +500m 13:53 / km
spiked:14/16c shoes: Walsh
Jeeeees, a hard course in some pretty scary terrain, it was really wet underfoot with rain and some mist to make things a tad more tricky. Went slowly and carefully to make sure I got all the controls without the need for mountain rescue. Not much running on the terrain as it was so steep up followed by steep down with the brakes applied. Was really glad to finish the 'Trial'.

Walk 30:00 [3] 1 km (30:00 / km) +500m 8:34 / km
shoes: Walsh
Foof, an epic walk up to the start!

Saturday Jan 19

Event: Warrior Winter Warmer Weekend

Orienteering race 1:15:36 [4] **** 5.1 km (14:49 / km) +300m 11:27 / km
spiked:11/16c shoes: VJ Integrater
Believe it or not this was my first daylight O race since the 27 August. It was a lovely area, technically challenging towards the end. Everyone was doing the same course, with a short cut off option. There were two very long legs, which I did a fair amount of faffing on rather than following everyone ahead - you could see for miles. It was pretty rocky in places and managed to twist my ankle a few times but no ill effects. There's definitely something wrong with my knee and so a trip to the physio required...

Friday Jan 18

Run (Terrain) 32:25 [4] 4.5 km (7:12 / km)
shoes: Saucony Omni
Friday morning tootle around Beecraigs in the drizzle... hey, this might become a habit - let's hope so. Had to make it short in order to get back for the gas man to fix the boiler, might get some hot water today.

Thursday Jan 17

Fitball (Core strength & stability) 30:00 [1]
Hope that doing this will give me more strength to get up those hills. Will need to pump some air in for next time, it was a bit squashy.

Wednesday Jan 16

Pilates 45:00 [1]
shoes: Bare feet
Only two in the class today! The instructor was very kind for the first class of the year to break us in gently. Noticed that my hamstrings were very tight.
Run (Terrain/Road) 59:12 [4] 8 km (7:24 / km)
Terrain, path and a bit of road run: round Uni up into Hermitage Woods, Mine Woods and back through Bridge of Allan. Bit slippy on the forest paths. This was a proper training run for me as I pushed faster than normal in an attempt to keep up (wish I could have). The hills just about killed me, I just didn't have enough energy, I think that having had lunch at 11 and a banana at 2 wasn't enough or maybe too big a gap, I felt starved!

Saturday Jan 12

Orienteering (Coaching) 40:00 [2] * 3 km (13:20 / km)
shoes: Walsh
Junior training session, shadowing/coaching on line and Yellow courses at Barr Wood. Beautiful frosty but sunny day in lovely bits of the wood. Kids enjoyed themselves as well!

Friday Jan 11

Run long (Terrain) 1:20:12 [3] 11 km (7:17 / km)
shoes: Walsh
Wobble joggle around Beecraigs and up over Cockleroy on the frosty, slipperytastic wee paths through the woods. Not as many trees down as expected after the gales but there were plenty of muddy bits to splash through - bit fffreezing. Lovely to get out in the daylight with some sunshine for a change. Only saw three people in the car park with their doggies oh, and three men in boats on the loch fishing.

Fitball (Core stability & strength) 30:00 [1]
shoes: Bare feet
Got the fitball out of the cupboard for a spin. Should really have done more of this when I had my cold but wasn't in the mood then. Pilates should start up again on Wednesday, that should help...

Wednesday Jan 9

Night Orienteering race 49:00 [4] ** 5.2 km (9:25 / km)
spiked:6/6c shoes: Saucony Triumph
Arrived too late for the start of Steve's Night Fumble (Forth Bridge fiasco trafific nightmare on the M9) so started from finish to #6, the leading pack of Ali B-J, Brad, Fraser and Dixie flew past on the way... almost got to #12 before deciding to get back to the finish as pub booked for 7.45pm. Felt good running but still pants on hills (and my tights were squint) - even the smallest pimples, hill reps are a must for me this winter! Well done to Steve for going out in that scary wind to put out the controls and to those who made it on time and big credits to go to the other late-comers who collected the controls.

Sunday Jan 6

Run 1:02:00 [3] 6 km (10:20 / km)
shoes: Saucony Triumph
First run of the year! Shameful shuffle around Linlithgow Loch with the kids on their bikes. A lot of pushing of A required due to: bigger sized bike, mud and (wee) hills; I think my back is going to suffer tomorrow. Best bits on flat tarmac when I could just about keep up with the pace!

Very jealous of you lot getting out and about in the hills up North and orienteering and mountain biking and Callendar Crags, lucky devils! Oh well, at least my cold has gone and I've stripped the paper off the kitchen walls (not fun but strangely theraputic).
