 | Night Orienteering race 1:12:53 [4] *** 6.7 km (10:53 / km) | |
| shoes: VJ Integrater |
| Ace race in the dark, made lots of little gaffs like getting my feet trapped in between fallen trees, falling down steep banks into streams and getting tangled in brambles... and we do this for fun? My compass work was fabulous and I hit most controls pretty much straight on. I mistook a road for a wall, which confused me for a while - these line features seem to be tricky for me these days, good job I'll be doing some white courses this year, perhaps I'll pick up some tips from Erica! Just couldn't run as fast as I wanted to. |

| (rest day) |
| I was all dressed in my kit ready to head to Beecraigs but have retreated indoors for safety as there are are large trees blowing down! I have cosoled myself by booking accommodation and entering for the French 6 Days...
Being confined to barracks doing washing, hoovering and tidying up is dull. Let me out of here... Hellooooooooooo, is anyone out there....?
Is anyone going to the pub after the night O tomorrow? How about the Bridge Inn? |

 | Night Orienteering race 48:12 [4] *** | |
| shoes: Walsh |
| Crazy steep uphill start, my legs just wouldn't go after pilates and sitting in the car for far too long (sorry I was so late - traffic chaos out of Edinburgh again, the first 3.5miles in 45mins). Still had to use the dodgy compass (new one's in the post) so hung on to those in front for security. Elle took us well past #9 (half way to #10) and we followed like sheep. On the way to #17 I looked across to see everyone following so close that they could have been doing a congo! I led everyone a merry dance round a knoll just before #17 followed a bit later by a bum steer to #20, we lost the line of the ditch and drifted off... I hadn't done up my laces properly in the rush to get ready, I might as well have been wearing slippers (Walshes are soft but not furry) they were so loose that I was useless downhill to the finish. Can't possibly have any excuses for the night champs... Thanks to Fraser and Peggy for giving us a great night out. |

| Last outing with my dodgy compass or should it have been a dodgy outing with a compass, not sure... I was moving quickly between the controls but had to stand still and wait for my compass settle in order to use it and still I was a bit wayward - very frustrating. I also had to stop and help someone who was even more off course than I was and make sure she got to where she was meant to be, which added a bit of time too. The course was intricate and steep in places but nothing too severe although there was a 70m climb and back down again for the last two controls! |
