Event: 11-Person Relay

Orienteering race 26:08 [5] **** 3 km (8:43 / km) +75m 7:45 / km
spiked:12/12c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw
11-Person Relay Loch Vaa

Well I made the team after all but poor Jon had a nightmare sorting all the conundrums! As it turned out, the team had to be non-competitive but it didn't spoil any of the fun. What a hoot it was in the tent, Doug was merrily sipping tea in their camper van when he should have been in the changeover pen and so Jamie swapped places with Doug, changing his number and brikk at top speed to take over from the second leg runner! I thought poor Doug was going to hyperventilate when he appeared ready for his run too late. When I got to the changeover pen, Susan was still waiting to go out on third leg and we had to have a huge conference and consultation with various officials to make sure we could send Doug out on fourth leg when Ted came back from the third - what a kerfuffle! All part of the fun. I had a pretty clean run, it was a lovely light green course but probably lulled me into a false sense of security...

Note
(rest day)
WARNING - DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE SQUEAMISH/SWEAMISH

I got my stitches out today but the nurse, wielding a sharp looking knife, wasn't convinced they should be taken out and now I think she's right! She put on some Steri-strips in the hope this will hold my wound together and told me to take it easy for the next few days. Better make sure I have some bandaging firmly in place just to be on the safe side.

Run warm up/down 25:24 [3] 2.6 km (9:46 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw
Warm up round time trial loop, stopping to let folk hang the markers. The first part of it was at my race pace up the hills, no wonder I had no energy left when it came to the trial.
Run 36:40 [4] 5.2 km (7:03 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw
Time trial, part track part terrain with hills up and down. What a great idea, even if I was slowest, forgot to have lots of scooby snacks again and suffered a bit on the second loop from the dizzy lizzies. It's all a personal challenge as the name of the game is to train and improve over time. It will be interesting to see the analysis and where I'm at next time.

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]
Start of another block of pilates sessions, oh boy will I be sore tomorrow.
Orienteering (Shadowing) 40:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks GTS
The plan was that Erica went off first by herself and Andrew and I set off three minutes later only to find Erica coming down the wrong path... So to avoid any unnecessary search parties later on we went round together. It was a bit of a struggle, it's much better when it's one to one to get some concentration and when they're not having a carry on! Erica wandered up very close to the edge of the quarry at one point, she was just admiring the view across to Stirling she said. Aaargh!

Tuesday Sep 2

Run 5:00 [3] 0.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
Run to the station, I was soooo late. So was the train, then it was cancelled... so much for public transport - huh!

Sunday Aug 31

Note
Trying to work up some enthusiasm for a run, I've had my running kit on all day and now it's just spitting, so here I go...
Run 1:03:22 [4] 11 km (5:46 / km)
shoes: Brooks GTS
The spitting turned into rain but hey, at least I got out! So it was a soggy run round Linlithgow Loch, onto and along the canal and down the wee muddy path along the river. I found the escaped cow who'd left all that mess we saw on Friday's run, it was waiting with its pals at the corner of the field.

I was running ok and decided to up my pace along the river path striding out a bit when "ooohhgghh" I exclaimed as a wee dog appeared from the undergrowth, my adrenaline went a bit haywire...

I ran this route in reverse in February and was only 3 minutes and 30 seconds quicker today, a bit disappointing really.

My scar was a bit sore, a few days rest will help.
