orienteering 47:10 [5] 6.1 km (7:44 / km)
Third time out at the CSU semi-permanent course. Sam, Jeff and I met Lori and Presto at South Border road. We were all a little worried about how cold it was, but once I was out there running hard it felt quite nice.
I used the contours only map this time again, but really I wasn't doing much map reading at all. It was a little too easy for me to remember where the flags were and so I was a bit casual with my orienteering. I tried to focus, but was having more fun with the pushing hard with the running in the woods. Very icy today, fell a couple of times once right at the start that actually left a good sized scrape.
Messed up 13 pretty good. Thought that I was swinging farther south than I actually did, so I ended up overshooting a whole lot. I'd been in the area a lot though, so it was relatively easy for me to relocate. Got to 17, but the streamer had disappeared, and then swung too far around on the way back to the finish in an attempt to avoid all the green briar.
Got back to the car and Brendan was biking up to do a loop of the skyline trail. We chatted a bit, then he set out and I went to go re-hang control 17.... then I wandered back a few more controls to see if I could see Sam come through. I got too cold waiting above 14 and didn't know if she'd already run past or not... so I came back to the car to wait it out.
Finally adding my splits from the last few times.
