| Brendan set up a training at Hammond Pond. I biked over to the parking lot and met brendan at 9am. He had maps with circles, each leg of the course was 300 meters long, and we took turns leading from control to control. We ran pretty quickly through the terrain, and the woods were nicer than either of us expected. we did 15 controls and then ran back to the start, a nice morning training. Then I biked home and had a nice recovery meal of Udon noodle Ramen ... mmm :) | ||

| Trail run 45:00 [4] 6.0 mi (7:30 / mi) | ||
| Running with Jeff and Sam on the blue hills course that we will race on Sunday. The first ten minutes was warm up and the next 30 minutes was threshold. I was a little more rested than either of the other two and I think I pushed the pace a little harder because of this. I didn't have the map though, so I sped up going up and downhills and relaxed as I came up to potential turns, waiting to hear from Sam which way to go. It felt good to run really hard, looking forward to sunday. I think I can break 42 minutes for the complete 6 mile course... so that will be a good goal. | ||

| Sleeping in was made difficult by the roofers who I prefer to call the "ruthless agents of sleep destruction and front door blockage" Actually they're pretty friendly, but nicknames as good as the ruthless agents of etc etc tend to stick. So anyways, I was awake so I went running. just around newton. It's hard to run fast when I'm by myself. | ||

| road run 30:00 [2] 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi) | ||
| Nothing like 8 1/2 hrs on a bus to get you in the mood for a run! Anna came over at about six, and we went for an easy run around the town. And as a sidenote, google pedometer is, like, amazing.
Then we cooked pasta made sauce with artichokes and olives. Watched some West Wing, and then Anna and I made 1 and 1/2 cakes for a birthday and for immediate consumption. really anna baked, and I acted as a moving obstacle in the kitchen. But in all good baking there are two tasks 1) baking and 2) being a moving obstacle and we drew straws.

| road run 30:00 [2] 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi) | ||
| Running with my college running buddy Sean. We did the steeplechase together, and steeplechase is just one of those ties that bind. Since Sean is at Cornell, we did an easy run around the Plantations ( we didn't bring a map) and chatted... lot's of William's gossip to cover.
Afterwards it was important to continue the hanging out over Wings. And after that we moved onto Checkers. I got pretty good at it after awhile, I'm good at the ruthless sacrifice of my playing pieces. Sean makes his own furniture ( it's really good looking) and he made the checker board too. When you learn that your friend makes nice furniture, and your closest comparison is making origami, you feel a bit inadequate.

| Helping after the CNYO meet. I went out to grab a control stand that had been left accidentally during the pickup stage. I had a cleaner attack this time, and had no problem with it. It was control #2 on the blue, and I had no trouble with it the first time, but with prior knowledge of the vegetation around the control, I was able to save time by dropping down the hill earlier. It all goes to show that even perfect controls can be done better.
I then ran over to see if a waterstop had been taken care of, and back to the car. Then for the next 1 1/2 hrs I lugged 21 gallons of water plus all the accumulated trash away from two water stops. The water was packaged 3 gallons per cardboard box. That would have been convenient if it hadn't been raining all weekend. So the cardboard was useless and my backpack was only big enough to carry three jugs at a time. I did a lot of ferrying.... enough to know that if I ever set an A meet all you suckers will get 3 gallons max!
