Wednesday Nov 28

road run 45:07 [3] 6.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
Running home from work. I like to run in to work, because it feels good to have the training checked off early in the day... however it feels really good to run after work too. If you have a bit of imagination it feels like you are escaping from prison :) or something like that.

Trader Joe's doesn't sell Chipotle peppers in a can. which is sad

Sunday Nov 25

road run 1:04:00 [3]
Running with the GF around newton. A very pretty day. I felt a little guilty not going to the Mt Tom race, but it was very nice not getting up and needing to be somewhere. Unlike Thursday, Friday, and Saturday ( and most week days, come to think)

Friday Nov 23

road run 3:00:12 [3]
peer pressure training. Running for 3 hours is a mental feat more than a physical one. Very glad for the company and the route we ran was very pretty. I was wearing the right amount of clothing at the beginning but by the end I was quite cold, I kept kneeling down to tie my shoes, clumsily, with cold fingers and then having the shoe untie a few minutes later.

Not sure that I would have held out so well if I had already done a hard bike ride earlier in the morning, a la Hilly.

my post run recovery was mocked but I think it treated me well. an hour long nap followed by yummy dinner chez Luis.... Showering is secondary to sleep, everyone knows this.

Wednesday Nov 21

road run 48:25 [3] 6.0 mi (8:04 / mi)
Three good morning runs in a row would have been pushing it a bit I think. This morning I felt gross, like being on the verge of getting sick. finally rolled out of bed at 8:13, so didn't hit the road until closer to 8:25. Much warmer, but feeling blah so a bit slower too. As the run went on I did feel better and better though. I got most of the way through composing this Haiku after settling upon the topic in Newton Center:

my running day-dream
each car with no turn signal
I drop in the Res.

Not as good as the classy work that Brooke and Cristina came up with, but it is legitimately harder to focus while running... maybe my next poem can be less hateful and more ode-like ala acjospe where I got the idea in the first place.

Tuesday Nov 20

road run 44:45 [3] 6.0 mi (7:27 / mi)
Another bracing run to work. this time with ipod and another layer on top. I was planning on composing a haiku while I ran today.... but with all the extra stimuli of an ipod and my shirt constantly riding up and needing to be yanked back down I just plain forgot. I'll try to remember tomorrow.

By the way, I'm getting quicker and quicker on this set route. It used to take me 52 minutes to run..... apparently training works. good to know.

Monday Nov 19

road run 45:05 [3] 6.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
A little brisk today. I might have underestimated this time on clothing. I wore shorts, gloves and a hat with a long sleeve shirt and it was chilly the whole time, but never unpleasant. I tried to push a little bit harder during the middle section coming down the hill by BC and around the Reservoir but I was rewarded for this effort with a stitch in my side from having the backpack cinched too tightly.

Sunday Nov 18

orienteering 1:00:00 [3]
running around little blue hills with the samster. looking at possible sprint (December 1st, before the Traverse) control locations. Was really impressed with the Northern area of the map, but don't think I can get it to work logistically. There is an unpleasant section of forest that effectively cuts off access to the fun section of forest. will need to decide how much crap people are willing to fight through to get to the good woods :)

Thursday Nov 15

orienteering 36:12 [3]
Night-O with the CSU training crew. Brendan set out night-o flags at Hammond Pond and we had a blast. It was slippery and I forgot to bring o-shoes, so that was interesting.

My light was super bright, and I found it to be a challenge because all the sapplings and brush were so well lit, but I was having difficulty finding the best way through the terrain. I was moving pretty slowly because I was unsure about which trees were going to be substantiative and which I could easily push through.

I have some work to do before Tiomila, couple of places where I c b bhjfg,hm yj.,ykfiu0976

Tuesday Nov 13

road run 47:55 [3] 6.0 mi (7:59 / mi)
So I am a wimp in the morning... it takes me so long to get out of the warm bed and I usually rush for a hat on cold days. So I looked out and saw that it was raining and sorta went overboard for my run to work. with tights, a long sleeve shirt, a jacket and a hat.

about 30 seconds out the door I was sweating pretty profusely. I took the hat off and rolled up my sleeves, but still was warm the whole way in.

passed another Turkey in Brookline, this one was trying to get into one of the swank restaurants on Beacon Street. It's getting to be the season where the turkey's really might want to think about laying low, or someone is going to invite them home for dinner.

Monday Nov 12

Note
no running. pretty blah day in terms of motivation. also was the only one at work in my lab.

Sunday Nov 11

Note
Went to the science Museum with Sam and Hill, which was awesome. I've never been and now that I've been I'm convinced that it would make for great party location if you could get a group of your friends together and kick out all the little kids :)

then we went to Dedham for Jeff's Birthday celebration. Happy Birthday Coach! and he helped me put new spokes on my bike's rear wheel. Soon I will be biking again.

Saturday Nov 10

orienteering race 57:12 [4] 7.5 km (7:38 / km)
Blue course at Estabrook. My first time on the map. I was running very well to start, pushing myself hard because without a real effort to push like it's an important race I end up not racing very well at all. I wasn't having much difficulty a bit sloppy on my bearings out of controls and feeling very cheerful about everything.

I rolled my ankle pretty hard on my way to #4 and walked a short bit, and then tried to gradually move back up to a jog. I feel stupid each time I roll my ankle because I should know better and just because I haven't hurt it in a long time doesn't mean that it has magically gotten stronger. Taping is such a chore and I can usually get away with not taping. Anyways, I knew Hilly was just 2 minutes behind and so I was trying to get going again quickly before she caught up. I then really shanked the next control. I headed off on a compass bearing and it was a close enough control that a compass bearing might almost have been enough even without my plan of checking off a stone wall before running down a spur. I got up on the spur and saw a boulder and thought it was the boulder closest to my control. It turns out that it wasn't and I was much higher up the spur than I realized and it took me a few minutes to sort it out. This was frustratingly similar to my HUGE mistake at US champs.

the rest of the race was sort of unremarkable... I compared splits with Ernst and I got a bit slower after hurting my ankle but nothing too bad. I had a lot of legs that I chose to run through the green. and there was another mistake (#9) I made based on a quirk of printing on the Estabrook map. Many of the swamps are printed in the exact shade of green as medium green. I ran down to a control on the edge of a marsh and tried very hard to run through a patch of green that was just in front of my boulder. Of course since there was no patch of green, it was just more swamp I just ended up confusing myself before eventually sorting it out.

Friday Nov 9

Note
This was actually a sorta planned rest day. I picked up dinner food on the way home from work and a present for Sam that will severely cut into her training time :)

Thursday Nov 8

road run 48:01 [3] 7.4 mi (6:29 / mi)
Newton Street O with CSU. We had a whole crowd come, with Pia, Dean, Alexei, Lori, Hilly, Jeff and myself running and Judy, Sam, and Brendan being social members :)

I was running quite hard. Often, when i've pushed hard in a workout I can smell an ammonia smell in my nostrils. Others never smell it though, so i think it's a me thing. very strong smell after the run tonight though.

Afterwards we had chili and Brendan brought ice cream and Dean brought beer, and we hung out.

Splits for those who came and took splits.

Wednesday Nov 7

road run 46:45 [3] 6.0 mi (7:46 / mi)
Another early morning run to work ( yes leaving at 8:15 counts as early for me) and it was gorgeous. But honestly, twice in one week getting up early enough to get to work by 9 or so... I am going to need some positive reinforcement or something to keep this up :)

I snagged sam's iPod and ran listening to music. I've decided that the new Matchbox 20 song is a good running song because it has a sort of choppy style to it which reminds me of how I breathe while running.

Tomorrow is CSU training and another Newton Street-o complete with Moosewood chili for dinner afterwards. mmmm you know you want to come and run!!

Tuesday Nov 6

road run 47:28 [3] 5.4 mi (8:47 / mi)
This was going to be a hill workout with Jenn. Sam told me that Windsor St was a good hill to run up, and pointed to it on gmaps. I then proceeded to not find it, so Jenn and I just ran down Beacon St, and then looped back. It was nice weather, just kinda dark to be running without headlamps.

Monday Nov 5

road run 46:55 [3] 6.0 mi (7:49 / mi)
Running to work in the morning. Legs feel just ducky, and getting lots of sleep last night plus an extra hour over the weekend sure made getting out of bed easier.
