| biking 1:00:00 [3] 12.0 mi (4:59 / mi) | ||
| Biking to and from work. Gave some thought to going to a climbing gym tonight, but gave the idea up because Sam got home latish from training and sitting on the sofa playing video games and watching Firefly is much easier.
hopefully will get the gumption to go climbing soon though.
| C • Ooooo, Firefly, that's an awes... 2 | ||

| to and fro to work I go. successfully motivated myself to bike to work even though it was raining. When I got on the bike I realized that it was hardly raining at all.... just enough to keep the prissy cyclists from riding in. This meant that I had lot's of space on the bike rack to place my bike. | ||

| Harry Potter is over. Now to go marvel over the greatness of Ms. Rowling as I can finally get some sleep. | ||

| biking 1:00:00 [3] 12.0 mi (4:59 / mi) | ||
| to and from the workplace. I felt pretty good while biking. very slow and lazy as I started, really just enjoying the morning. I raced a Greenline shuttle bus on the way home though, all the way from the reservoir. Turns out that roomate Eric was on that bus, and I totally beat him home. booyah, score n+1 for the bike, 0 for the broken MBTA. | ||
Thursday Jul 26 | ||
| biking 50:00 [3] 9.0 mi (5:33 / mi) | ||
| Biking to work, and from work to kinko's ( the bane of my existance) and from kinko's across the street to hammond pond.
stupid kinko's. well really incompetent me, but I'm happy blaming others. let's just say the maps were a little iffy :)
| orienteering 20:00 [3] 3 km (6:40 / km) | ||
| Did the CSU training at hammond pond. A great group showed up including many still on the DL.
so first issue was that the 2.8 k course was really a 1.4 k course. Ocad and kinko's, the twin banes of my existence. We are an adaptable crowd mind you so we made do. The plan was to go off in intervals, orienteer the first loop just like a sprint, and then do it again just like a sprint where you know all the controls already. However, having placed the steamers on Tuesday I already knew where they all were, so I just ran hard and had fun. Gave me lot's of opportunity to test different route choices. Giovanni had a clever route that I tried the second loop and it saved me loads of time. first loop took me 9:54, second took me 8:51. Will put up splits a bit later, but now it's late and I'm just going to finish posting and go to bed.

| biking 1:10:00 [3] 13.0 mi (5:23 / mi) | ||
| Biking to work from work to Jenn's and from Jenn's home. I had a blast getting to work, hit all the lights exactly right and made a new record of 25 minutes to work! I was sweating a lot by the time I got to Jenn's place and so it was perfect that she wanted to do a swim workout instead of a run. | ||
| pool 15:00 [3] 0.4 mi (37:29 / mi) | ||
| Jenn and I drove out to Walden Pond. Jenn is on a triathlon kick right now, and wants to practice swimming more. It's a great place to go swim, lots of people are there exercising, and the water is perfect. We were running late for game night so we just swam back and forth across the width of the lake. My arms are going to hurt later after the swimming, but it was way worth it.
we parked at the school and jogged maybe half mile there and back.
Tuesday Jul 24 | ||
| biking 1:15:00 [3] 13.5 mi (5:33 / mi) | ||
| biking to work/ from work to Hammond Pond/ from Hammond Pond home.
feeling better today. well in the morning I still felt drugged up on the cough syrup that I took for my throat. I felt pretty woozy until about 2pm. hopefully I won't need the stuff tonight to sleep through the night without coughing myself awake.
| orienteering 25:00 [3] 2.8 km (8:56 / km) | ||
| setting up some streamers for the thursday night CSU training at Hammond Pond. my plan is to have a short enough loop that running the loop twice is feasible. The first time will be just normal orienteering. The second time will be to practice running hard through the woods ( in theory one will already know where to go). Nine flags that were pretty fun to hang. It will be interesting to see if this is a useful exercise to anyone.
meet at 6:30 in the parking lot on Thursday and we'll walk over to the start. Bring a dollar to cover map printing fees. Let me or brendan know if you plan on coming!

| biking 1:00:00 [3] 12.0 mi (4:59 / mi) | ||
| biking to and from work. super phlegmy. really worry about dehydrating when I spit up so much mucous. | ||
Saturday Jul 21 | ||
| road run 55:00 [3] | ||
| "morning" run with the Sam Fam. just went running around Dedham with Hilly and Sam. We were actually moving pretty quickly, even though we were talking the whole way. nice that it was so warm and sunny. And certainly running with company is always a good thing. Less sick feeling than yesterday or even when I woke up, so maybe turning the corner on this disease state that I've been in. arguably the best way to finish a run is to stop in the backyard and pick raspberries! I guess you could argue that having someone else pick the berries and feed them to you in some sort of seductive way might be nice too.... | ||

Friday Jul 20 | ||
| biking 1:00:00 [3] 12.0 mi (4:59 / mi) | ||
| biking to and from work. man did I feel dead today. I swear that I have a set amount of energy at my disposal each day and that my body can use this energy for making mucous or for everything else. That's the only way I can reasonably explain my day.
after I got home though, I put a few hours of frantic organization in an attempt to conceal from Sam that I hadn't done anything the entire week that I've been home. Which meant that I cleaned the kitchen, did my laundry, cleaned my room and her room ( well tried my best) and went food shopping... all before going to get her from the airport.
Thursday Jul 19 | ||
| biking 45:00 [3] 9.0 mi (4:59 / mi) | ||
| biking to work and then from work to Jenn's house. Wednesday is traditionally game night, and game night traditionally means that Jenn and I go for a run and then play board games with some other non-runners. Sadly I was feeling pretty sick on Wednesday and Jenn was at Fenway watching the Sox lose a series.
I was pretty happy to have re-installed my fender as it was pretty wet out. I was also pretty to be commuting by bike again, since the Green D-line is so miserable this summer. I can either wait for the bus, take the bus to resevoir, and then take the T to Longwood ( door to door about 45 minutes) or I can bike ( door to door in under 30). of course I miss out on 2 crossword puzzles and 4 sudoku's of varying difficulty by biking to work. Now all I can do is print out the Nurikabe puzzle while I'm on lunch break.

| road run 40:00 [3] | ||
| Jenn and I ran around the reservoir a loop and a half. felt pretty phlegmy, but running is good for what ails you much like BorisGr has been known to say. It was raining the whole time, and we were contemplating if there is any real science about running in the rain while sick making you even sicker. It's just that I envision mothers (okay not my mom, maybe someone else's mom) saying "you'll catch your death of cold". interesting my mom did forward me an article that shows exercise in the cold can depress the immune system ( test subjects were horses, readout was cytokine levels). I'm clear that wet = evaporative cooling = cold.... but this was warm rain. Actually compared to the JWOC training camp in Orange, this was tropical. my guess that any exercise while sick would add stress to the system and that would lead to getting sicker. Maybe another question for Szurcher? what are the potential benefits of exercise on illness?
Samantha better get home for LA soon, because when I start posting, it means there isn't anyone around to regulate bedtime.
