Note

Went to the science Museum with Sam and Hill, which was awesome. I've never been and now that I've been I'm convinced that it would make for great party location if you could get a group of your friends together and kick out all the little kids :)

then we went to Dedham for Jeff's Birthday celebration. Happy Birthday Coach! and he helped me put new spokes on my bike's rear wheel. Soon I will be biking again.

orienteering race 57:12 [4] 7.5 km (7:38 / km)

Blue course at Estabrook. My first time on the map. I was running very well to start, pushing myself hard because without a real effort to push like it's an important race I end up not racing very well at all. I wasn't having much difficulty a bit sloppy on my bearings out of controls and feeling very cheerful about everything.

I rolled my ankle pretty hard on my way to #4 and walked a short bit, and then tried to gradually move back up to a jog. I feel stupid each time I roll my ankle because I should know better and just because I haven't hurt it in a long time doesn't mean that it has magically gotten stronger. Taping is such a chore and I can usually get away with not taping. Anyways, I knew Hilly was just 2 minutes behind and so I was trying to get going again quickly before she caught up. I then really shanked the next control. I headed off on a compass bearing and it was a close enough control that a compass bearing might almost have been enough even without my plan of checking off a stone wall before running down a spur. I got up on the spur and saw a boulder and thought it was the boulder closest to my control. It turns out that it wasn't and I was much higher up the spur than I realized and it took me a few minutes to sort it out. This was frustratingly similar to my HUGE mistake at US champs.

the rest of the race was sort of unremarkable... I compared splits with Ernst and I got a bit slower after hurting my ankle but nothing too bad. I had a lot of legs that I chose to run through the green. and there was another mistake (#9) I made based on a quirk of printing on the Estabrook map. Many of the swamps are printed in the exact shade of green as medium green. I ran down to a control on the edge of a marsh and tried very hard to run through a patch of green that was just in front of my boulder. Of course since there was no patch of green, it was just more swamp I just ended up confusing myself before eventually sorting it out.

Note

This was actually a sorta planned rest day. I picked up dinner food on the way home from work and a present for Sam that will severely cut into her training time :)

Road run 48:01 [3] 7.4 mi (6:29 / mi)

Newton Street O with CSU. We had a whole crowd come, with Pia, Dean, Alexei, Lori, Hilly, Jeff and myself running and Judy, Sam, and Brendan being social members :)

I was running quite hard. Often, when i've pushed hard in a workout I can smell an ammonia smell in my nostrils. Others never smell it though, so i think it's a me thing. very strong smell after the run tonight though.

Afterwards we had chili and Brendan brought ice cream and Dean brought beer, and we hung out.

Splits for those who came and took splits.

Road run 46:45 [3] 6.0 mi (7:48 / mi)

Another early morning run to work ( yes leaving at 8:15 counts as early for me) and it was gorgeous. But honestly, twice in one week getting up early enough to get to work by 9 or so... I am going to need some positive reinforcement or something to keep this up :)

I snagged sam's iPod and ran listening to music. I've decided that the new Matchbox 20 song is a good running song because it has a sort of choppy style to it which reminds me of how I breathe while running.

Tomorrow is CSU training and another Newton Street-o complete with Moosewood chili for dinner afterwards. mmmm you know you want to come and run!!

Road run 47:28 [3] 5.4 mi (8:47 / mi)

This was going to be a hill workout with Jenn. Sam told me that Windsor St was a good hill to run up, and pointed to it on gmaps. I then proceeded to not find it, so Jenn and I just ran down Beacon St, and then looped back. It was nice weather, just kinda dark to be running without headlamps.

Road run 46:55 [3] 6.0 mi (7:49 / mi)

Running to work in the morning. Legs feel just ducky, and getting lots of sleep last night plus an extra hour over the weekend sure made getting out of bed easier.
