road run 46:16 [3] 5.5 mi (8:25 / mi)
running with Sam. she was feeling slow and trying to garner pity, but she's faster than she gives herself credit for. so ppbbth to her pity. A really nice day to go running with the gf.

Friday Jan 18

Note
No run. Waited to pick up my friend from the airport. then he got on an earlier flight. then he realized that his bag didn't. Then his bag's flight got delayed for over an hour. so he took the T out to Newton instead.

Thursday Jan 17

Note
No running. not feeling very motivated this week apparently.

orienteering 46:41 [3]
Wow, this was a long time ago. I gotta keep current with my posting. Night-o training with CSU courtesy of Alexei. He hung up a set of controls at Prospect Hill, and we trekked through the snow to try and find them. My headlamp is beautiful, but it was still hard to get into the swing of orienteering. It was nice to go running, even if it was snowy.

After night-o I caught up with the roommates at pub trivia. Without the crucial member of team steph infection ( i.e. Steph) we went with the name Enlarged to Show Texture.... which was lucky because we disgraced ourselves with a poor showing and a poor score and next time we can come back with a clean slate.

Tuesday Jan 15

Note
no running, still can use snow as an excuse, but it's kind of a lamer excuse on the second day.

Monday Jan 14

Note
huge snow storm!! no running. because running in this crap would be tough.

Sunday Jan 13

Trail run 53:29 [3]
Orienteering map exercise with CSU crowd. Alexei marked a trail run route and our exercise was to work very diligently to anticipate what we would next encounter along the trail. In areas without many features to anticipate we tried to visualize ourselves as a moving point on the map, and think of ourselves in relation to the next junction or big feature that we would come across. So think "okay I'm this far away, now I'm only this far away, now I'm... wait, there's the junction" and to practice knowing where you are on the map this way.

I found it hard to stay focused for the entire time, I got mentally tired and since there was no worry about getting lost there was really no direct punishment for losing concentration. Also I was catching myself reacting to as opposed to anticipating features. I'd see a cliff and find it on the map, instead of the other way around. So I was constantly reminding myself to look forward.
C • That sounds like a great ex... 2
