orienteering 20:00 [3]

ARDF introduction by Vadim for CSU training group. Very fun way to get out into the woods. He had set two beacons constantly transmitting in Hammond Pond. we borrowed his radio receivers to home in on the control locations. Very fun, but too cold to stand around too long. started to go numb by the end. I also was having way too much difficulty getting the signal to stayed tuned. I thought I was doing everything right, but sometimes the signal would cut out inexplicably and I'd mess with all the dials trying to get the noise back :) Something I'd like to try some more, especially since the US championships in ARDF is being held in Blue Hills this summer.

Note

Nothing today, but we did go shopping for a Futon, picture frames and groceries. In the evening we spent time at the Saeger/Karpinski headquarters eating dinner and playing games. A very successful day, albeit exercise-less.

Road run 25:00 [3] 4.0 mi (6:15 / mi)

got stuck at work late and needed to get to Lori's for CSU training by 7. As it was already 6:30 I knew that public transport wasn't going to be fast enough. So I ran, and was pleasantly surprised to make it there basically just in time.

orienteering 53:00 [3] 7.0 mi (7:34 / mi)

Street o in cambridge with CSU. Ian, Lori, Presto attending. spent some time in a new part of the cambridge area map. south-east of Harvard. Then we did a short section on the Harvard Campus map. very fun, and I'm always happy with how much faster I seem to run during a street o than any other time.

Road run 32:00 [3] 4.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Nice run to the workplace today. traffic was backed up from the intersection at cleveland circle all the way to the footbridge across the train tracks. This meant that for a couple of minutes I got to pass about 50 cars as if they were standing still... well okay, so they were standing still, but it still feels very empowering.

Trail run 35:00 [3]

My first run ever at lost pond. Sam and Hill have been a bunch, but I'm always lazy or at work (oftentimes both) and this was the first time to check out the trails. The fairly deep snow meant more work, but it was nice company to run with and a very pretty background as well.
