Note

Tomorrow morning, I will be running my 3k time trial out in Amherst with the CSU SS crowd. At the beginning of the year my goal for this 3k was to be at 8:55. What can I say, I'm an optimist :) My current approach for tomorrow morning is to do a thorough warm-up (as it will be freezing cold) so 20 minutes running and then some strides. I have 2 goals: 1) run the first 200 no faster than 36 seconds 2) try to hold that pace to reach a 9:00 3k. I won't be disappointed if I miss that mark though.

I hope to run well enough to contend favorably against Gswede :)


Also, just added most of my route from the Traverse as well. Had some glitch near the end, so the animation doesn't work properly and the last few controls are messed up. I might come back and try to fix it at some point, but maybe not worth it at this point.

Running to work. Later, over my lunch break, I went over to the clinical research center at Beth Israel to volunteer in one last part of the Brown Fat study. I submitted to a DEXA scan to calculate my percent body fat. I'm at 12.00%

I got checked a couple of years back and was at 14% then, so either I'm becoming more lean, or this DEXA machine is calibrated a little differently. I'm training a lot more now, so that's likely part of it.

All told the process took 3 minutes and I was out the door. Being a paid volunteer is great :)

Heading into work. Needed to get there pretty early as I spent part of the morning taking part in another section of the Brown Fat study. This time I hung out in an MRI machine for a couple of hours, first half just as baseline reading, the second half while wearing a cooling vest with circulating chilled water.

The vest wasn't set to such a cold temperature this time, and so the only uncomfortable part was when my lower body went numb from lying in one position and not being able to move because that would ruin the imaging.
