Excitement on the 4th of July, with a lot of maneuvering to make it to the Model event for the sprint, which was in Venice, from our accommodation which is in Jesolo. The short story is that Tori, Sam, Ali and Ethan took the ferry over to the sprint training and Tom, Giacomo and I (due to a shuttling of athletes) managed to get on a boat that did not drop us off where we had hoped, in fact it was close enough to the embargoed area that we opted to stay on the boat and just head back to the car park again, skipping the model event entirely.

A bit of a fiasco, but with pleasant company the whole way to ease the disappointment of failed plans :)

Giacomo and I did a nice run in the port area instead, throwing in a few pick-ups and generally getting psyched for tomorrow. Legs feel light and really like the new no-name gear. It's hot enough here that I will try to wear only the short shorts whenever possible. :)

Alright! Italy! Left the apartment at 3:30am to make the 6am flight to Venice. Shared the flight with Matt Ogden (NZL) and Nick Simonin(IRL), which made for a fun morning. Tom met me at the airport and we headed into Venice straight away to get some sprint training in. We met Tori at the predetermined rendezvous and sorted out maps and then got right into it.

The city is really cool! I love the bridges and the narrow streets. Took a lot of concentration to deal with the crowds and the route choices often left me feeling like none of the options were any good :) Legs feel good, the breeze from the canals was a life saver!

Did a few sets of O-tervals, and then jogged back to the train station. We headed from there to the accommodation in nearby Jesolo and have checked in (WiFi reaches the boy's room, but not the girl's) and now it's off to accreditation.

Excited!
