Sunday May 30

Trail Run (Race) 1:42:18 [5] 12.4 mi (8:15 / mi)
Charlie Horse 20K (Plowville, PA) - first time running this - a tough course. Bus to start from the Sleepy Hollow A.C. to French Creek. Start was in one of the group camps. First mile or so a bit awkward with a dogleg and some bushwacking, then following the Horseshoe Trail. Heart of the course is miles 6.5 - 11 which includes 2 large hills (one a 1.5 mile uphill road run to the last water stop). Had a decent run, walked some on a few hills. 28th overall.

Trail Run 1:00:17 [5] 9.0 mi (6:42 / mi)

Tuesday May 25

Trail Run 39:30 [5] 6.0 mi (6:34 / mi)
Brandywine Creek SP - Pushed all the way. Mainly because there was a swarm of flies & sweat bees hitching a ride on my head. Tried to fight them off by swatting with my shirt but to no avail.

Harriman A-Event (Sebago) - Day 2 Red Course. Much cooler, ran most of the course, but 2 costly mistakes. First was at #3 where map wasn't making sense near the control. Approached too far right and then circled in the blueberry - lost about 5 mins. Really didn't like this control selection. 2nd bad was #4. Intent was to shoot up to the right along the stream/marsh. Was sloppy leaving 3 though and ended up 1 stream system too far to the right - a dumb mental mistake. Lost probably 10 mins. Nice job by HVO on the event.

Harriman A-Event (Sebago) - Day 1 Red Course. Very warm - mid 80's. Slow due to the heat and climb. A basically clean run - just a few minor corrections in the vicinity of the control.

Road Run (Race) 18:57 [5] 5 km (3:47 / km)
Iron Hill Brewery 5K - 2nd year I've run this. A very good race - fairly even pace and held off a challenger at the end. Perfect weather: partly cloudy, cool breeze, upper 50's. 12th overall, 2nd M40-44. Splits: 5:52 / 6:23 / 5:59 / 0:42
Road Run 6:00 [2] 0.75 mi (7:59 / mi)

Sunday May 2

Orienteering 1:33:32 [4] 5.67 km (16:30 / km) +335m 12:44 / km

West Point A-Event (Long Mountain) - Had essentially a clean run except for #7 which was misplaced by about 75m. Was slow and deliberate the whole course, including #7 which I would have spiked had it been in the right place. Instead, lost a good 10 minutes on it. Hate to sound like a whiner, but these types of problems at an A Event are really unacceptable.

Saturday May 1

Orienteering 1:54:37 [4] 8.28 km (13:51 / km) +360m 11:22 / km
spiked:9/13c
West Point A-Event (Round Pond) - A tough and physical course in keeping with West Point tradition. Unfortunately, also in the West Point tradition, there were a host of quality control issues. Bad mapping cost me 5-10 minutes enroute to #8 - had to dive in to mountain laurel and a marsh in order to descend what was mapped as an easily crossable cliff. It was a 30 foot shear drop. On #9, the overly generalized rock mapping and erroneous clue sheet (showed feature as a knoll, it was a cliff) cost me another 10 minutes. Very warm day - upper 70's.
