Sunday Oct 30

Trail Run 54:13 [3] 7.5 mi (7:14 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 871's
White Clay Creek Preserve - Didn't have time for the long drive to WC or Bowie so decided to do some exploring. Perfect day for it - sunny, warm, leaves near their peak. Started at the Chambers House Nature Center then north across Chambers Rock Rd. bridge in search of the new Boundary Line Trail. I found it easily and followed it up a long gradual grade to Corner Ketch, then downhill where it kicked out to a road. Turned left hoping it would take me down to the creek and luckily that proved to be the case. Then followed an old road-bed trail along the creek that eventually merged with the Pomeroy Rail trail. Re-joined the road near the park office. A very nice loop - good footing, variety.

Fair Hill NRMA, MD - Hanging the last of the streamers (White, Yellow).

Friday Oct 28

Trail Run 41:48 [3] 5.6 mi (7:27 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 871's
Brandywine Creek SP - from the bridge. Started out ok but ran out of gas midway through. Maybe it was the cold weather.

Wednesday Oct 26

Trail Run 38:21 [3] 5.5 mi (6:58 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 871's
Alapocas Run Park - Started from the ball field parking area as usual. Was hoping the bridge across the Brandywine at Bancroft Mills would be open so I could head up to Rockford Park, but it is still gated. Probably won't open until spring. Did find a different trail on the return though. Once the Fair Hill event is behind me, I want to check this place out with a USGS.

Nolde - Red course. The course was physical with a mix of nice woods and some green slash. I enjoyed it. Had a few minor errors - about 6 mins of lost time. Think this is the last event for my O shoes. The soles were starting to delaminate so I duct-taped them before starting. Fortunately, they didn't disintegrate on the course.

Saturday Oct 22

Fair Hill NRMA, MD - Streamering in the rain. Streamers for both days are now all up except for a few White and Yellow.

Friday Oct 21

Trail Run 50:29 [3] 7.5 mi (6:43 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 871's
Bellevue / Bringhurst Woods / Rockwood Parks - Cool but gentle rain. Actually felt pretty comfortable. I had the park practically to myself.
Weights 45:00 [3]
After the run. I-95 was gridlocked from an accident so I bailed out and got in a quick workout.

Thursday Oct 20

Trail Run 1:05:11 [3] 9.0 mi (7:14 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 871's
Woodlawn Preserve / BCSP - Some of the trails on my normal route were closed for a park Halloween extravaganza so I opted for an alternate, hilly route instead. Chilly day, first tinge of color on the trees - my favorite time of the year for running. The rain that appeared all but imminent as I started never materialized. Stayed entirely on the east side of the creek, finishing on the flats.

Tuesday Oct 18

Weights 45:00 [3]
Sit-ups 10:00 [2]

Cycling 21:30 [2]
At the gym - flat profile, level 12, 200 cals

Monday Oct 17

Trail Run 41:08 [3] 5.6 mi (7:20 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 871's
Brandywine Creek SP - First run in over a week. There's absolutely no excuse for taking a week hiatus in the middle of the Fall O season. But I was having serious motivational difficulties last week.

Sunday Oct 16

Map Reading 2:00:00 [1]
Fair Hill NRMA, MD - More streamering for the A-event. Actual time was about 6 hrs.

Saturday Oct 15

Map Reading 2:00:00 [1]
Fair Hill NRMA, MD - Streamering Long-O controls. Beautiful day. Would have been even better if Penn State hadn't been robbed once again by the officials at the Big House.

There was some good news this week regarding Fair Hill. The Maryland Stadium Authority was considering siting the "Maryland Horse Park" there which potentially could have consumed nearly 1/4 of the park. After much public protest, they wised up and decided on the Naval Dairy Farm site near Annapolis.

Monday Oct 10

Trail Run 24:25 [4] 3.6 mi (6:47 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 871's
Bellevue SP - one trail loop. A little stiff from yesterday.
Track Run 7:48 [3] 1.13 mi (6:53 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 871's
Bellevue SP - one lap around the equestrian oval after the trail loop. Thought my pace was faster than this but apparently not. I'm still not convinced this isn't a 1.25 mile oval. I think my trail distance is overestimated too but it's too demoralizing to change it.

Sunday Oct 9

Iron Hill County Park - Local event Red course. Nothing like running on your own fieldwork to pull you out of a miserable slump. I was much cleaner today, but still had a few problems. Spent a couple minutes circling looking for the depression at #12. Overall, a very enjoyable course, perfect day for running - cloudy, cool.
