Glenfinnan to Glen Pean bothy, over Sgurr Thuilm. After slow going through the Harry Potter crowds in drizzle the sun came out and after the viaduct we had the valley to ourselves before the solid climb up onto the ridge to the summit. Straight line route to the bothy was a hard going slippery descent but cut the distance significantly.

Long run out in Culbin, 8km steady then 6*1km (500m) on a variety of trails, beach and terrain - pretty slippy and slow along the front so not particularly quick but good to get something slightly faster done. 10km of trails & terrain back before a north sea ice bath. Legs tying up towards the end, but feeling fine off no breakfast.

Introducing Tol to navigating sand dunes in Culbin, first couple of hours shadowing her round an old British champs course then another 70 mins on my own round bits of that and an old SOL course which took me to bits of Culbin I don't think I've been to before - nice view over to Findhorn.

Navigating reasonably well in places but lacking terrain strength. Found a couple of flags out there, one on the ground not really in a feature which I thought I'd helpfully collect, before finding another one nicely hung, very much on a feature.

Running (Mixed) 1:30:51 intensity: (7 @1) + (3:30 @2) + (1:14:45 @3) + (12:29 @4) 14.05 km (6:28 / km) +23m 6:25 / km
ahr:141 max:168 shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 285 (red)

Trails and a bit of terrain running back from the edge of the orienteering map. Bit of a struggle towards the end, unsurprisingly after a long spell in terrain and over 100km this week.

ahr:141 max:179 shoes: NB Zante (blue)

Half an hour out west along the beach & golf course chasing down Tol, then trying to reintroduce some speedwork with ten minutes @ 4 mins/km on the beach. Remainder at a more leisurely pace, with Tol back through Delnies & Nairn.

Nice short day in fine weather up and over the bealach to lochan Fuara then a lovely stream/singletrack winding its way down to Strathcarron.

Pleasant run from the bothy on estate roads and then a DH mtb track through the woods to Craig, then across and up Allt a'Chaonais on the other side. The expected weather kicked in on this climb and all the goretex was needed for the rest of the day, but it was of little protection against the occasional strong gusts that stopped us in our tracks. Had thought of going over the tops to Bearnais bothy but the weather suggested the lower level route would be a better idea.

Crossed the river and headed up on a good track which became a stream towards the bealach Bhearnais, and on the other side we were off track and occasionally off our feet in the strong winds and driving rain. Started brightening as we approached Bendronaig bothy but we were soaked through, so very glad to find a very well stocked wood pile and choice of stoves to dry ourselves and our clothes for the rest of the day.

Had planned a few days on the Cape Wrath Trail, but the weather wasn’t playing nicely in our available window of opportunity, Thursday looking ok but then lots of rain forecast and plenty of river crossings not an ideal combination. So instead we concocted a shorter adventure around the Strathcarron valley which offered options for multiple weather scenarios.

Started from Achnashellach station and headed up towards Beinn Liath Mhor, dropping the bulk of our kit at the bottom. A good climb and lovely ridge of three peaks, with the weather improving throughout offering views to Skye by the end. We were moving pretty well, and the weather was playing nice, so descended and climbed up the other side for Sgòrr Ruadh too. The trail back from here was a delight to descend, before picking up our kit again and continuing north to stay at the tiny Easan Dorcha bothy, a very welcome midge refuge which we had to ourselves meaning no need to camp.

Had hoped to get out to Clava for a hill session with Nairn road runners but seemed it wasn't happening this week, easy trot around the roads instead.
