More travel-to-run related farce, got to the bus stop to realise i didn't have travel card, so had to run home and back again, making a much later & hotter start for my run.

Malabar to Bondi along the coast.


Started off with wonderful deserted clifftop bush around the firing ranges east of Malabar, quite tough running, leaping around open rock and tight sandy trails to Maroubra.

Then it was coastal path all the way to Bondi, really nice route but with quite a few big flights of steps coupled with the heat I was struggling by the time I hit Bronte. Despite carrying water (and quite a full bag) the regular bubblers on the final section were very welcome.

Massive burrito and dip in the sea a suitable reward.

Getting to orienteering race navigation fail.

Tried to run from Macquarie Uni to the park direct following a supposed path (on OSM) through the creek, struggled to find the path in the first place then when I did, got to the river to find no bridge. Decided to then go on a google maps tip that suggested there was a path from Khartoum Rd to Yanko Rd. This turned out to be a pipeline, which, while I probably could have got across somehow, I couldn't really be bothered with.

So with 8km in my legs, in rather warm weather, I decided to cut my losses and save the 13 bucks the race would have cost me to spend on beer instead. Ho hum.

Early start for a trip to the Blue Mountains, really beautiful out there, definitely worth some weekend trips up there in the future.

Couple of hours spent learning to surf up in Newcastle, pretty rubbish weather but really good fun, just about upright by the end, hopefully try and do some more before I leave.
