Always struggle to get legs moving after a longish cycle and this was no different, jogging and strides but calf a bit twingy and generally feeling sluggish.

Wasn't particularly happy with many aspects of this race, both personally and with the map, course setting, control descriptions & control hanging. But alas.
1,2,3,4 fine but struggling to get up to speed and a bit hesitant in in figuring out what was going on with the map and whether the green was crossable (a flower bed is not, typically, impassable vegetation, and has a different meaning to forbidden to cross), particularly an issue through carparks on the way to 4 where I also wasted some time wondering why the control on the bridge end wasn't actually on the bridge.
Then as others did before me, and I was warned about, did 5-9 rather than 6, yes looks stupid when the map is correctly orientated, but running to 5 and planning ahead you have your map the other way up, and 9 looks like the classic dog leg out of control sprint route. A bent rather than cut line 9-10 would easily have avoided this. Gave up after that and a few more occasions of either hunt the control (both on feature and in relation to descriptions) or why is there a lock in the way of the SI unit led to frustration, compounded by #14 being in the wrong place (c'mon, urban controls are typically TD1!) - I actually thought it had been taken in early as I'd started last. To really show how crap I was I then punched 19 instead of 16 and spent a while hunting for 20 too for good measure.
So, not a great evening out. Which is a shame, as there is the possibility of a good map and a decent course in there somewhere.
