Cracking day out exploring trails, waterholes & lookouts between Faulconbridge & Springwood with Nicole, was an absolute scorcher which wasn't really what the forecast had suggested.

Down victory track for a swim in Glenbrook creek, really nice trails here, then a bit more overgrown once past the Fairy Dell track junction. Climb up to Bunyan & Lost World lookouts was super hot, but again great trails and spectacular views, before a fun descent back down to the creek for a much needed swim, before heading back to Springwood up Fairy Dell which was another really nice trail.

8 pack of icy poles demolished between two.

Red Bull dunedusters race on Stockton dunes.

Walking to assembly was much more like expected with soft sand, and thankfully am exploratory run out from the start suggested that would continue to be the case. I'd pretty heavily taped my toes after yesterday's battering, but figured that'd be no bad thing no matter what the sand was like.

Set off near the front with Andy and kept it steady, trading places and generally running in each other's footprints on the climbs, slowly churning through the crowds who'd raced off, and noticing the km markers were coming up too quickly compared to Garmin. First half seemed pretty comfortable, nothing too big dunewise, just stare at your feet on the climbs and keep hitting footprints to the top.

On the return they hit us with some nastier climbs (and got hit by the wind on the tops), where you're using your hands as much as your legs, and after the final drinks point I started to get a small gap on Andy in a few places then would find him right back behind me on the next climb, but then gradually opened up 30s on the final few climbs to prevent a brutal finish line showdown!

Finished 9th, just under 6 minutes down. Pretty happy with the result, and found I strangely enjoyed it, probably left a little too much in the tank but hard to tell how hard to push when you have no idea what the course has in store for you. Would be keen to do again. Especially when combined with a visit to Murray's brewery.
