Big day out recceing solitary with Lachlan, what a difference a week makes.

Easy pace down Kedumba in the rain, waterproofs on, but mainly for warmth, pointlessly dropping some water at the turn off just in case. The river crossing was fun, but not too bad - not much over knee deep where we crossed, but hugely different to last week where I got across bone dry!

Got the poles out for the climb this week, and didn't push so hard, but it was a very similar time with a much lower HR. How much down to that and how much down to being over 10°C cooler I can't say, but wizard sticks definitely the way to go. That said, the climb is actually much easier in the wet in terms of grip underfoot.

Jacket back on for warmth after the climb as it was still a bit slow across the top, and taking it pretty easy down the other side, but got moving reasonably well through the landslide and along federal pass. Didn't fancy the trip up Furber, figured that might be a step (or 951 in fact) too far, though was feeling ok at this stage. Cracking waterfalls along to Leura forest then the long descent into the valley, trying to keep things relaxed.

After the long downhill the cold river crossing and instant uphill from Leura falls creek threatened some hamstring cramps, but a quick stint of hiking settled that and I kept a reasonable pace across the Valley, leaving my sticks for Lachy for the final push up Kedumba. Even managed to do the lower section twice, as I'd left my hat behind when emptying my spare water over my head before the climb, not being drenched enough. And did a wee out and back to a lookout to not see much and get the marathon in.

Good confidence rebuild after the previous solitary suffer session, and surprisingly pleasant in the rain - waterproof shorts did the business in keeping me comfortable. Super nice to get back out on tracks I've not run before in this direction, and actually way less rain than in Sydney too which was just as well.

2.5 cereal bars, 1 bag trail mix, 1 bag lollies, couple of shot bloks and a gel. 1.5l electrolyte & 1l water drunk, 20l absorbed.

Easy soggy trails round Riverview, Blackman's park, stringybark & back via lane cove.

Bit of water on the golf course, would have been interesting to see it on Sunday.

Smashed my forefoot in a hole between rocks on Stringybark which was bloody sore, but eased off during the day.

Picked the optimum route for getting the lot while leaving me options to drop things if needed, but thankfully the last third was super quick and I came home a minute under for the first clear win for a while.

Running quicker than anticipated, which was nice.

Wanted to do some hills on the way back to Sydney, and figured somewhere in the Illawarra escarpment would do the trick and picked Austinmer due to the bonus of beach & swim to finish.

Ended up with a cracker of a route, singletrack mtb trails and rainforest like RNP's burning palms section, then a great 15 min ~250+m climb up to sublime point, with 900m of stairs, before some ladders and undulating trail to the top.

Plus the GPS track looks like an apple.
