Gemmipass (2300m) from Kandersteg to Leukerbad

Fun day out with first decent views of Swiss mountains, with some good rogaine training climbing hikes and trying to master tow rope efficiency.

A nice few km to warm up then a solid climb up onto the pass alongside some crazy looking DH mtb trails, then a very pleasant undulating section across past the lakes and some snow running to the hut at the top of the descent. Got pretty cold here and had to put on all our clothes when we stopped for beers and a picnic, featuring some delicious fresh goats cheese from a farm we passed along the way.

Then a crazy descent to the valley, over 1200m down in less than 4 km of switchbacks and stairs blasted out of the rock. Followed by a trip to the leisure centre for thermal pools looking out across the valley. Pleasant.

Jaunt up the Gurten and back to the river, with some stairs and drills thrown in towards the end.

Orienteering triathlon in Bern:

Ride PubliBike to park, run 7.5km permanent course, run to river, "swim" 1.1km downstream, ride home. Great day out! Had planned another orienting session in the old town and second swim but ran out of time.

Willis to Stockhorn

Despite a lack of decent views due to cloud cover, a lovely day out in the Bernese Alps getting some climb in the legs. Solid climb up through forest into some alpine pastures with a bit of running accompanied by the sounds of cowbells, then some pleasant passes with marmot watching, and then final slog up Stockhorn for zero views. Fun descent to grab the Trotti bikes making for a quicker, leg friendly trip back down to the valley.
5 PM

Cycling 24:11 intensity: (7:59 @1) + (16:06 @2) + (6 @3) 9.67 km (24.0 kph)
ahr:101 max:122

Trotti bike down off the mountain, super fun, hitting speeds over 55kmph and thankfully avoiding any cattle grid or cornering disasters.
