We had a Hoka test day at work today, and we took a bunch out for a short jog to try out their choice of Hoka shoe. Not a huge turn out, but it was pretty cold (there was snow on the map at Redmires today for the SPOOK relays, and the Endcliffe Parkrun was cancelled due to ice).

A reasonable pace for once, along the canal. I tried out some Hoka Speedgoat 2s and hated them a lot less than the Clifton 3s.

Started this ride with the UOSCC "C" bunch, so it was pretty sedate. We spend 90 minutes riding around in Strines, which is full of horrendously steep climbs.

After we split off from the crew Kyhil and I had intended to go right down to Eyam , but we hadn't factored in quite the slow pace so we cut short at Hathersage and came home via Fiddler's Elbow. I was miserable by this point, it was absolutely freezing and I hadn't felt good to begin with. Kyhil kept suggesting we do this or that little bit to make the ride longer but I gave him a resolute, profanities-laden "NO".

Track session of broken kms with Charlotte - 3 x (600 / 100, 400 / 200), 800 jog, then 2 x (600 / 100, 400 / 200).

Not a good session for either of us. As with the rest of the week, feeling really fatigued, and my back still pretty sore. Stomach started to bother me a bit towards the end. Was hoping for 3.20 pace (maybe 3.25) but had to settle for 3.30.

Recoveries and warm down - did some strides in there as well but didn't really time them.

Too knackered for a ride (or turbo) this morning. I know I need to be patient building back up to full training load but it's frustrating me to be so sore and tired all the time!

Run with Alice and Lova in Rivelin. Probably 30 minutes longer than planned, because I accidentally gave my bus money to Kyhil when he took my stuff home for me, so I had to run to and from the meeting point.

Road shoes were NOT the right choice. Very wet and muddy!

Fingers crossed, last trip to Blacka Moor to tape and check sites before the event. Windy today but not too cold. No conspiracy theorists today but did see a couple of big deer with huge antlers.

When I finished taping sites I got back and had just missed the bus home. Next bus was in an hour and I wasn't that keen on standing around in the wind so I decided to attempt running home - "it can't be that far, right?". It was far. I eventually gave up somewhere on Abbeydale Rd and walked the rest Knackered after this.

So in case the almost 2 hours of running earlier wasn't enough, I had signed on to do Springvale Spirals, the annual sufferfest urban fell race beginning at Tim's house in Walkley and doing a series of climbs and descents between the the same two upper and lower boundary roads.

I felt absolutely rubbish. Back was aching heaps, started to feel real nauseous on the second climb, and was crawling by the end. Also, my ability to run fast down steep slopes was (as always) terrible.

Somehow I was still about 15s faster than last year. I must have been pretty unfit!

Didn't have time for a longer one today. Just as well - legs were veeeeery tired and heavy after yesterday.

Up Porter Valley. Gorgeous weather, some glorious autumnal patches along the valley.
