Visited some friends in Carlton last night, and having downed most of a bottle of wine and lost at board games, allowed them to convince Kyhil and I to join them for a session at The Spin Room. Felt tough to start but got into it OK, 3 watts/kg actually feeling pretty cruisy so that's nice.

Orienteering race 53:43 [4] 8.44 km (6:22 / km) +110m 5:59 / km

Orienteering at Fiddlers Green, Bendigo Saturday event. Had fun, very different to anything I've run in for the last two years. Made a little mistake on 6 (compass about 50m off), was too high on 8 but sorted it out quickly (many lost people at this control), and put away my compass to 10 and ran up the wrong spur, which just meant I ran in a banana shape to the control. Got pretty tired towards the end, would have liked to be finished at 13.

Two courses in the forest near mum and dad's house. First one without tapes, second one with. Started well and was compassing accurately, seemed to get lazier as I went. Had the dogs for company. Feeling pretty dreadful still, sore chest / lungs and also sore quads today.

Disaster run! Went out on the forest tracks from mum and dad's, and was running on a sort of vague track marked by tapes. It was going OK until the tapes turned a pale yellow - and all of a sudden I was lost, and it was dark. I ran in what I thought was a western direction, hit a large track, followed it to a dirt road. Knew if I got to the highway I would be OK, but didn't know which way to turn on the road. Luckily Kyhil's Garmin (which I'd borrowed), had a compass - came out on the highway about 4km south of the house. Nearly got to the turn off and a car stopped - it was dad and Kyhil! Phew.
