Baw Baw Trail Fest - Nominally 21km (but actually shorter).

First time this has been run, there was a 15, 21, 36 and 42. Because it's in its infancy, there were only maybe 15 people max in each distance, so quite small. I was first woman and second overall.

I didn't go all out today; I always had a plan to keep it reasonably controlled (just a hard training run), and I maybe even eased off a little at halfway when I was well behind the guy in 1st and quite far ahead of the guy in 3rd.

Beautiful day, beautiful place, would definitely recommend people give it a go next year. Only downside was climbing the ski slope 3 times (was meant to be 2 but the course was changed because of fires in Thompson Catchment).

Note

Planned to stay the evening and ride up Baw Baw from Icy Creek in the morning - but was evacuated thanks to the fires near Noojie and the concerns about them cutting off the access roads. Spent 4.5 hours driving home, driving around the fires at Bunyip. Pretty terrifying smoke and a red sun.

From home, 1 lap of Richmond Boulie as warm up, then 5 laps doing half as an effort and half easy. Felt pretty good, did tire in the last two. Trying to keep cadence high.

4 x 1km off about 80s, trying to keep it tempo-ish (round 175 HR) before racing this weekend. I was encouraged when the first one was 3.40 but collapsed to 3.55, 3.52 and 3.58. Not fit yet. Felt fairly comfortable at this HR.

5 x strides on the grass while the others did 200s.

Autumn Series #1 at Bunjil. Started off trying to push hard, but made two significant mistakes at 2 and 4, so eased off and focused on getting it right, didn't make any more mistakes. Was pretty tired and absolutely starving at the end.
