Orienteering 1:01:49 [3] 7.38 km (8:23 / km) +197m 7:23 / km
ahr:154 max:184

Training on long legs at Gillingsrod. Really enjoyed this and gained some confidence. Was decisive and made pretty good choices and wasn't too scrappy in the circles either. Had a bit more trouble on the last long leg which had a lot more detail and therefore a lot more decisions to make. Went a little faster too which is a plus.

Jogging warm up/down 10:03 [3] 1.73 km (5:49 / km) +27m 5:23 / km

Orienteering 41:04 [3] 4.28 km (9:36 / km) +118m 8:26 / km
ahr:156 max:169

Supposed to be a race simulation at Trollhatta - but honestly I still don't feel confident enough to really push. I was still really slow and hesitant. Went out of the start without a plan and wobbled around all over the place, lost a lot of time. Just a few small errors after that but again, super slow.

Also copped a stick in the eye which wasn't fun. Considering buying and running in glasses (as Tash has always recommended...). I think it will make me less of a wuss also.

Jogging 28:29 [2] 5.11 km (5:34 / km) +102m 5:04 / km

Jog around the track from Sarpsborg OK clubhouse (where we are staying). Nice track, more hilly than I expected. Not feeling amazing, tried to keep HR low.

Orienteering 1:40:41 [3] 10.21 km (9:52 / km) +377m 8:19 / km
ahr:145 max:183

Running part of the H21E course of the Norweigan test races at Gutterod with the intention of practicing the long legs.

This turned out to be neither sensible nor useful; I was exhausted and not able to run or concentrate. Went way too far left on #1 to hit the "track" (as I intended to follow the track at the end of the leg); it was actually a fence (terrible eyesight apparently) and was an absolute fight all the way along the fence to the actual track through thick green.

On the long leg 10-11 was going perfectly well (but jog-walking by this point) until about 85-90% of the way through the leg when apparently I had a stroke and looks like I never even got to the control (just a conveniently similar feature with a tape on it).

Probably would have done better with a rest day on reflection; the double sessions have taken their toll and today seemed to be largely marsh.

10 AM

Orienteering 1:07:53 [3] 7.6 km (8:56 / km) +185m 7:58 / km
ahr:152 max:169

Training on VĂ¥ler Varde, really nice terrain. Set out to focus on simplification and direction but immediately forgot and stuffed up the first 2. Decided to slow down a bit and actually stop at controls like I'd planned and then didn't make another mistake until 17 where I think I just had a brain fade and decided to throw my plan out the window. More positive steps.
1 PM

Orienteering intervals 45:27 [3] 5.21 km (8:43 / km) +176m 7:28 / km
ahr:157 max:175

O-Intervals (mass start) on Gillingsrod. Nice terrain again! Short legs but I will practice some longer stuff tomorrow. Lots of positives from this and got to trial running a little bit faster.

9 AM

Orienteering 1:39:38 [3] 9.62 km (10:21 / km) +215m 9:19 / km
ahr:146 max:170

Orienteering on the other half of Kirkebygden. This half was a fair bit different and more tough going. A couple of longer legs for practice. Made some errors and was very slow but did some good legs as well. Can only get better right....
3 PM

Orienteering 1:04:00 [3] 6.61 km (9:41 / km) +222m 8:17 / km
ahr:155 max:172

Training on Torebrate. Better, and a bit faster on this one, but still some lapses of direction. Very important to compass well and simplify.

Sunday Aug 4 #

3 PM

Orienteering 38:15 [2] 4.07 km (9:24 / km) +83m 8:32 / km

Map jog / walk at Kirkbygden. Feeling rough unsurprisingly. Terrain was pretty nice and easy enough to understand (at this speed anyway). Found highpoints were mapped very inconsistently, green is slow, something I would think is a marsh isn't always mapped as such and it was quite soft.
