Planned a 90km, 1700m climb route to St Andrews. Kyhil's bike exploded after 2km - his derailleur shifted into his spokes and snapped the carbon drop-out rather than the hanger. So the frame is now ruined.

Went out instead on the MTB, as Kyhil no longer had a road bike and also to improve his now foul mood (success). Lots of fun, tried to push on a little more than last time but still lacking confidence, especially on the tight loose-gravel downhill switchbacks. Candlebark is good but we did every trail and some of them 2 or 3 times - next destination will be Plenty Gorge.

6 x Hills. Felt garbage warming up but this actually went ok. Very inconsistent again, 2.25 for the first and 2.35 for the last. Think I went too hard on the first two (rep and recovery) and cooked myself for the rest.

With my brother and another friend, was really nice to have company and forced a slightly more chill pace. Felt surprisingly good (given last night's booze consumption and the fact I stayed up after the final to watch the Giro and Vuelta). Out along the Yarra Trail, quick detour up to the top of the hill on Plenty Valley trail and a lap of Westerfolds before heading back.
